Hi Shaun,
I read the posts that you so graciously provided the link for, and it never ceases to amaze me how scared to death that JWs are of finding out something that they might not want to hear. I know that in dealing with my mom who is a staunch JW. If you tell her, for instance, that there are great inconsistancies/180 changes in doctrine in as little as 2 decades, and tell her which publications to look up, she won't even bother to look them up, I'm sure because she would hate to admit that she just might be wrong about certain issues. So she would use the typical tactic of refusing to look at the evidence, thinking that if she hasn't seen it, she doesn't have to acknowledge it.
And many JWs don't see these changes as anything but 'new light' and it serves to re-inforce the circular concept: The WTS calls it 'new light' or 'meat in due season', and it was prophesied that there would be 'meat in due season', so this is the fulfillment of that prophecy. How do we know that? Because it was PROPHESIED that there would be meat in due season. This 'new light is a fulfillment of that prophecy. How do we know that?...............
And I think that many others just like to stay in their 'comfort zone' where they don't have to think about issues and face up to serious challenges to their beliefs. After all, with no room for questioning their beliefs, as mandated by the GB/FDS, know one really has to do much mental excercise if they are just going to faithfully accept what the WTS says without any pause to examine it, on their own, without first having the WTS's 'interpretation' of a particular scripture to bias their examination. It's really much easier to just accept it as proven fact.
So when confronted with what they consider 'apostate' material, they simply reject it out of hand. They don't examine it, many would be surprised to find out that the backbone of this material is made of quotes from WTS literature.
The dread of looking at 'apostate' email is really evident in those JW posts. Maybe it was the thoughts of the computer becoming 'DEMONIZED'!!!!!
:-)
