GTA Taxis

GTA

Maybe the most common cars in the streets of GTA 1, you can find Taxis anytime and anywhere. There is no way to pick up passengers, and all Taxis handle pretty much the same, but their average handling and performance is usually good enough for any kind of job.

Taxi (Liberty City)

Speed: Moderate

Handling: Moderate

Acceleration: Moderate

Body Quality: Moderate

Possible Real-Life model: Chevrolet Caprice

Where to find?

Everywhere in Liberty City

Comments:

Well, it's a taxi, what else can you say? It's civilian counterpart is the 'Portsmouth', a boring sedan.

Taxi (San Andreas)

Speed: Moderate

Handling: Moderate

Acceleration: Moderate

Body Quality: Moderate

Possible Real-Life model: Unknown - any ideas would be appreciated.

Where to find?

In the Streets of San Andreas

Comments:

Different shape, but same performance as any other taxi in GTA. The non-taxi version of this car is the 'Vulture'.

Taxi (Vice City)

Speed: Moderate

Handling: Moderate

Acceleration: Moderate

Body Quality: Moderate

Possible Real-Life model: Checker Taxi Cab

Where to find?

Throughout Vice City

Comments:

The civilian version of this cab could be the 'Flamer' that can be found in San Andreas, but the taxi version is considerably slower.

GTA: London 1969

GTA: London 1969 featured - surprise - a London Cab:

London Cab

Speed: Moderate

Handling: Moderate

Acceleration: Moderate

Body Quality: Moderate

Possible Real-Life model:

Austin FX4 Taxi

Real-Life image of an Austin FX4 (thanx to Ray's Taxis)

Where to find?

Everywhere in London

Comments:

The black London Cab, amazing. A true classic…

GTA 2 - Respect is everything

Soundtrack featuring "Taxi Drivers" (thanx to Schu of Gouranga)

GTA 2 adds a nice feature to taxis: You can earn a few bucks by waiting for a passenger to enter your taxi and drive him around the city randomly. He will stay in your cab and pay you until you crash into something too hard or stop for more than a few seconds.

Again, taxis can be found anywhere you please. Two different kinds of taxi cruise the city:

Taxi

Speed: Slow - Moderate

Handling: Moderate

Acceleration: Poor - Moderate

Body Quality: Moderate

Possible Real-Life model: N/A - GTA2 is set in the future

Where to find?

Commercial District

Comments:

Not the best choice for joyriding - it's performance could be better, but it's still good enough to earn a little cash.

Taxi Express

Speed: Fast

Handling: Accurate

Acceleration: Good

Body Quality: Moderate

Possible Real-Life model: N/A - GTA2 is set in the future

Where to find?

Residential District and Industrial District

Comments:

The Taxi Express is faster and more manoeuvrable than the normal Taxi. This one is even a good choice for jobs and joyrides. It's non-taxi counterpart is the 'B-Type'.

GTA III

GTA III features improved taxi jobs. If you chose to use your taxi commercially, you can pick up passengers and drive them to their desired location in time. You will get extra cash for extraordinary speed or several completed taxi jobs. A special goody can be achieved by completing 100 taxi jobs.

Taxis can be found everywhere throughout Liberty City, and there are different models.

Taxi

Speed: Fast

Handling: Rather Accurate

Acceleration: Good

Body Quality: Moderate

Possible Real-Life model: '95 Ford Crown Victoria

Where to find?

Throughout Liberty City

Comments:

Fast enough and handling well, this taxi is a good choice for many situations - a useful car for joyrides and getaways as well as taxi jobs.

There are two versions of this one - one with a small "Taxi" sign and one with a huger "Taxi" sign on the roof, but they're practically the same car.

The LCPD patrol cars seem to faster versions of the same car model.

Cabbie

Speed: Moderate

Handling: Sloppy

Acceleration: Moderate

Body Quality: Moderate

Possible Real-Life model: Checker Taxi Cab

Where to find?

Everywhere in Liberty, but the Cabbie is not as often to be found as the Taxi.

Comments:

This car is a classic, and so it feels. Though the Cabbie looks quite cute, the Taxi is the better choice concerning performance.

Taxi jobs are more demanding in a Cabbie: With lower top speed and sloppy handling, you'll have to push the car to its limits to drop your passengers in time.

Borgnine

Speed: Fast

Handling: Quick, though sloppy

Acceleration: Good

Body Quality: Moderate

Possible Real-Life model: Checker Taxi Cab

Where to find?

Once you have completed 100 taxi jobs, this one can be found in the yard of "Borgnine Taxi" in Harwood (Portland Island).

Comments:

The Borgnine is the bonus cab you get after 100 completed taxi jobs.

The stylish, dark red vehicle has bloody spikes on the bumpers, inviting the player for a casual joyride. It is faster and turning quicker than any other taxi, though handling still feels sloppy. One of my favourites.
