What is a Chicano? In my opinion there are at least two definitions of Chicano. The more inclusive definition, which is the one I use, is: A person, any person, of biological ancestry indigenous to the Americas (specifically but not necessarily limited to the Southwestern United $tates, Mexico, Central America, and South America) and of Spanish biological or cultural ancestry who identifies with the political philosophy of Chicanismo and endeavors to promote the predicament and condition of all Spanish influenced, indigenous peoples -- particularly those who are oppressed -- via progressive and politically radical beliefs and practices. The more exclusive (or popular) definition is: A person born in the U.$. whose parents originated from Mexico. I rarely use this definition because it tends to divide us, which is what the ruling class desires. Return later for more FAQ's or better yet email me some questions. |
