Opera is
a fast, user-friendly, and highly versatile Internet browser that includes a
newsreader, integrated search, and e-mail client. The keyboard plays an
integral role in surfing, making Web navigation easy and fast. You can run
multiple windows even at start-up, and special features are included for
users with disabilities. The standards support in Opera 7 has been improved
with added support for DOM level 2 and CSS2; improved ECMAScript
and HTML 4.01 support; and complete WML 1.3 and 2.0 support.
Opera 7 also handles non-standard pages using DHTML.
The latest release
comprises a major overhaul of this already excellent browser, resulting in a
faster rendering engine and a smaller overall file size, plus an enhanced
user interface to make Web navigation easier than ever. The new M2 e-mail
client automatically categorizes and sorts e-mail messages, incorporates an
integrated spam filter, and supports POP3, IMAP, and ESMTP formats. Other new
features include password and cookie managers, improved drag-and-drop
support, a floating hot list, user profiles, and a host of other additions
such as an integrated pop-up stopper, skin support, and Fast Forward and
Rewind buttons for expedited navigation. This version also includes the Java
Runtime Environment. If you have already installed Java, you can download the
smaller non-Java version.
Note: The full version of Opera is now
available for free in an ad-sponsored version. Registered users will not see
ads.

Download.com Review
As fast as ever, Opera is still embarrassing the big browsers by loading most
Web pages in a fraction of the time. The nimble browser's latest enhancements
only sweeten the deal. Navigation is more efficient with keyboard shortcuts
and mouse gestures, page-hopping FastForward and Rewind
functions, a tabbed browsing interface, and an instant site login tool, among
other helpers. Its evolving e-mail client offers up
the basics, plus some key bonus features, including elegant alternate views
of your inbox, multifunctional notes, and message labels. Its default spam
parameters could be tweaked. It was hit or miss in our test, and mostly miss. Opera's default interface can be overwhelming, but
it is wholly customizable and supports skins. As Opera continues to innovate,
bundling more tricks, tools, and full-service add-ons into its slim package,
it comes close to being the complete Web toolbox for the speed-conscious
surfer.
