I have been working on a basic thematic format.
Posted is my handout and several computer generated activities.
Take a look, and feel free to use what you can.
My idea here is to be able to do the same sort of things but change
the theme for other units. For instance, if I were doing a transportation
unit, instead of alligators, there would be cars, trucks and trains
where the gators are. This is just a basic format. I created this with new
teachers in mind (I had 3 on my team this year) who just didn't know
where to start or what is important to cover in a unit.
In this math activity are two swamps for students to work on math
facts. In a pail, put several alligators of 2 different colors. The
child picks a handful, puts each color in it's own swamp, then computes
the math sentence created.
Adding Math Mat
The alligator math mat has several alligators in a grid. The students roll a die
and puts a counter on the mat for each dot on the die.

These word cards are used as a thematic word bank. The ones I chose are
hatched, oviparous, swamp, marsh, jaws, crocodile, allgator, snout,
lizard, egg, water, reptile, and carnivore. Each word has the appropiate picture to go with it.
Alligator Word Bank
This reading sheet uses predictable text. Alligators live in_______.
A picture follows each descriptive word.
Alligator Reading Sheet
Here you will find an alphabet chart in the shape of an alligator.
There is a word which begins with every letter of the alphabet.
The child finds and marks each word as they find them.
