Liana had a passion for many things . . . Avon, Tim Horton's English Toffee, clothing sales . . .

but she was never more passionate about anything than her daughter, Ashley Hope White.

Liana's disappearance affected many people across the country. She was a young, expecting mother who had big dreams for her daughter, and had started to form just as large hopes for her unborn child. She was always kind hearted, generous and could put a smile on anyone's face . . . even on her bad days, which we all have. The day she went missing was a shock to everyone who knew her: she was reliable, and while it was typical for her to come jaunting around the corner one minute passed start-time, she was never much later than that.

It was a hard week to handle. Tensions were high, no one slept quietly, and everyone felt that more should have been done, so they went looking for her. People everywhere reported sightings of Liana, from small towns in B.C. to being seen shopping in Toronto with little Ashley. While her friends, family and coworkers hoped these were true, our hopes were all abolished the day she was found.

The chaos theory states:
The flapping of a single butterfly's wing today produces a tiny change in the state of the atmosphere. Over a period of time, what the atmosphere actually does diverges from what it would have done. So, in a month's time, a tornado that would have devastated the Indonesian coast doesn't happen. Or maybe one that wasn't going to happen, does. (Ian Stewart, Does God Play Dice? The Mathematics of Chaos, pg. 141)

Liana and her disappearance can be related to the flapping of a butterfly's wings. While she was one person amongst many, she affected more lives than anyone could ever have realized. In the midst of the confusion and grief, a focus was momentarily forgotten: Liana's daughter, Ashley, and her mother, Maureen. A group of volunteers have formed to help aide the upbringing of Ashley by hosting fundraising events. Alongside this, we hope to raise awareness for social issues that can arise unexpectedly. It started with simply a walk, for friends and family to share memories. It has grown into something bigger, however, with more people supporting our cause.

Since the trial of her husband, Michael White, has not happened at this point in time, we aim simply to start a foundation with which to work on, with the possibility of growing into a larger organization.

We will always remember.

Liana was always loving, and will always be loved.
