Nuernberg is the second-largest city in the German state of Bavaria. This was the first real "city" in which we spent any time. In the 1930s, the Nuernberg became a symbol for National Socialism and much of the old town center was destroyed in 1945 by Allied air raids. Many people are probably familiar with the trials of principal war criminals here before an international tribunal after World War II. |

If you enjoy "science" museums, then the Turm der Sinne (Tower of the Senses) is a fun place to visit. This museum has a lot of hands-on perception experiments, many of which people have probably seen in other places, but are still quite interesting. Spargelzeit! (Asparagus time)
I don't know exactly when asparagus season is, but it was definitely going on when we were there. Asparagus was being served practically everywhere, unfortunately, I did not get to try the "Spargel Lover's Pizza" at the nearby Pizza Hut. At least it gives me something to go back for... |

Kaiserberg Nuernberg
The Imperial Castle is a fortress on a hill in the center of Nuernberg. Visitors can see a variety of sights, such as the Tiefer Brunnen (the Deep Well) and the Tower. People can get great views of the city of Nuernberg from the Tower (which has graffiti dating back to the 1400s - although these are mainly carved in stone; not cut into wood or written by pens as with more contemporary graffiti). |

Around the side of the castle are the gardens, although only one of the three places seemed to have undergone much cultivation. Even though it might seem tempting when you're there, it's best to stay off the walls. |
