| Little Miss Avery made her entrance at 8:44am via C-section (yea for spinal blocks!) on Wednesday, October 12, 2005, weighing in at 7 pounds 5 ounces. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Her first week home, she had to be tethered to a "bililight" to treat her jaundice, but, as far as we know, was able to escape from the experience unscathed (but now she has this strange aversion to "indiglo" technology...) | ||||||||||||||||||

| At ten months: | ||||||||||||||||||
| Avery weighs about 21.5 pounds and is about 28 inches tall. I've broken out the 12-18 month clothing in the past few days. It's amazing how large some of those shirts look now, but I know in a few months, they'll just be "normal." We missed a couple swim classes due to a bug Avery picked up at daycare (so we think). Craig wasn't too thrilled with the classes anyway, so it didn't bother him. Luckily, we do have a pool downstairs (although it'll probably close after Labor Day!) and we should try to make the most of it while we can. She's still rather attached to me; even clinging tighter (at daycare) when Craig tries to lift her off me. The daycare people do a great job at distracting her when we leave that I feel like bringing them nice little gifts or something. Of course I haven't, but I still think about it. We've started using cloth diapers at daycare. One of the other babies uses cloth diapers (I think there's are fitted, meaning they're probably much more expensive per unit price than ours) and Blanca made a comment how she likes cloth better than disposable because it's better for the environment. We've told them before that we use cloth at home. I didn't want them to feel "forced" to use cloth, though, but since Blance prefers it, you didn't have to tell me twice! Avery's biggest physical development in the past month is crawling. Over a period of a week, she seemed to have a development explosion as she started crawling, pulling herself up on things, and even walking along things, like the couch. Courtney and Chris's daughter, Joanna, has already started walking (9.5 months!), but I don't think Avery will do that until she's closer to a year old. Just a hunch. Anne, at daycare, did find some walking toys that Avery should be able to use to practice, though. Avery likes it when things are put away. Because then she can pull them all out. She enjoys standing in front of the shelves in her closet and yanking out all the toys. She does this with our DVDs, our CDs, our box of hanging folders we conveniently store on the bottom shelf of our TV stand. Her latest discovery, though, are cabinets. I don't want to buy those baby-proof latch things, but we really don't have the space to take out all the "bad" things (like cleaners) and fill them with baby-friendly things like... I don't know, pillows or something. Avery seems to have lost interest in much of the jarred food, or at least her attention span for it has dramatically shortened. Things she does like: anything she can pick up and put into her mouth with her own hands. I don't think I've seen a table food yet that doesn't interest her. We bought some "baby yogurt" for her this past weekend and I think she enjoys it. |
