Recently, I have read a book which name is Of Mice And Men. This book is written by John Steinbeck.

Of Mice And Men this story takes place during the Great Depression in the Salinas River near Soledad, California. It talks about two men George and Lennie who are childhood friends and escaped from a farm near Weed because they got into trouble, so they need to find a new job that at the ranch. In there, there are a lot of things happened to them.

In this story, George Milton is one of the main characters. He is a guy with a small and quick and dark of face. He needs to take care of Lennie who is his best friend. His dream is earning enough money to buy a small farm where Lennie can tend rabbits. In the story, George says “ I could get along so easy and so nice if I did not have on my tail.” Though he says to Lennie like this and Lennie always brings troubles to him, he still cares about Lennie and look after him. George is an enthusiasm man.

Lennie Small is a man of tremendous size, has the mind of a young child. He likes to touch soft things. Though he is mentally disabled man, he is still capable of great violence. He always dreams of having a small piece of land with George and a small rabbit hutch. In the story. Lennie said “George would not got away and leave me. I know George would not do that.” From this sentence, we can know Lennie trusts his friend, but he always relies on his friend and entirely incapable of making decisions by himself and realize on George for action.

Candy is an old and crippled man who lost his hand. He is the swapper at the ranch. He remains attached to his dog, which has become so weak and sickly that it depends entirely on Candy to survive. But the dog is shot by Carlson.

In chapter four, it talks about Lennie is capable of violence. He becomes angry at Crooks when he muses about would happen if George got hurt, thinking that Crook is actually telling him that George was hurt. His lack of mental clarity along with capability for uncontrolled violence will prove a dangerous combination. Lennie forgets George’s warning at all. This is one of the scenes that express the major conflict in the book and lead to further complications.

In chapter five, Lennie tries to feel Curley’s wife’s hair, but he messes it up. She screams at him to let got, and Lennie covers her mouth to stoop her from screaming. She struggles violently, and Lennie breaks her neck. Accidentally, he murdered Curley’s wife. This is another scene that leads to further complications.

The conflict of this story is George versus Lennie. George has a dream will raise enough money to buy a patch of land, where he and Lennie will have small farm with a vegetable patch and a rabbit hutch. But Lennie always makes trouble. George though he continue together with Lennie his dream will not come true. The above scenes that talked about lead to George kill Lennie.

The ending of this story is a little bit sad. After Lennie kills Curley’s wife, he leaves the ranch. George finds Lennie in the brush where he told him to go at the beginning of novel. George tells Lennie about their plans when he shoots Lennie in the back of the head with Carlson’s gun. Through this story, John wants to tell us everyone has a dream to strive for. Sometimes, though something is not you want to do; you have to do it what is good for you such as George kills Lennie. IN my opinion, I think people strive for their dreams are true. Such as I want to get a good job, so I need to study hard now, try my best to make my dream come true.

O Mice And Men this book is excellent. It is meaningful for everyone. I would recommend this book to my friends. Though this book is gook, I do not very like the ending of the story because is not match my imagery. It is sad. And there are a lot of old English words in this book; maybe some people do not understand these words. I think this is the only thing should change.
