Lesson 2 - Pilot Self Identification
~S~ MechWarrior,
In this lesson, we will cover the various methods of identification used in our House.
Note: This lesson is meant to provide direction where none existed previously. Any units with outstanding alternate traditions may continue to use their own traditions if authorized by their command.
As you know by now, especially if you have read Lesson 1, our structure is comprised of Districts, Divisions, Regiments, Battalions, Companies, and Lances. This structure is used in our identification as well.
The first section of this leson will deal with formal communication. This would include your signature attached to profiles on internet boards, emails sent out to other House members, or any other time you are representing your unit or the House in a public setting.
The basic structure of the signature is as follows:
| Rank Name
Title (if applicable) Position Unit position refers to Parent Units as applicable (Regiment, Division) District *FWLM* or *Free Worlds League Military* |
Before we bring examples, it should be noted that many units have nicknames for themselves. This practice is not only tolerated, but encouraged. However, for formal communications, the proper name of the unit must be referenced as well.
Now for some examples
For our first example we will use Private Sixpack, assigned to the Marik Guard, also known as the Red Moon Angels. His signature would look like this
Private Sixpack
Marik Guard - Redmoon Angels
Marik Commonwealth FORSCOM
Oriente Military District
*FWLM*
His Battalion Commander, Force Commander Unknown, would have the following signature under the iconic format:
Force Commander Unknown
Battalion CO - Alpha Battalion
Marik Guard - Redmoon Angels
Marik Commonwealth FORSCOM
Oriente Military District
*FWLM*
His Regimental Commander, Colonel Palin, would have the following signature under the iconic format:
Colonel Palin
Regimental Commanding Officer
Marik Guard - Redmoon Angels
Marik Commonwealth FORSCOM
Oriente Military District
*FWLM*
Notice how Commanding Officer and Executive officer may be contracted for space reasons. Another instance where contraction is permitted is at the Brigade level. We refer to these commanders as "Area of Operations Commanding/Executive Officers" to prevent confusion with Battalion CO/XO's. This may be fully contracted to AoOCO/AoOXO in formal communication.
Another example would be a fictional Sergeant Voodoo, Lance Leader of Charlie Lance, Alpha Company, Bravo Battalion, of the 6th Defenders of Andurien. The complete, formal, iconic signature would be:
Sergeant Voodoo
Lance Leader - Charlie Lance
Alpha Company - Bravo Battalion
6th Defenders of Andurien
Andurien FORSCOM
Ryerson Military District
*FWLM*
Now that's a mouthful, so HQ may look the other way if some of the intermediate info is left out or contracted, such as:
Sergeant Voodoo
Lance Leader - Charlie Lance
6th Defenders of Andurien
Andurien FORSCOM
Ryerson Military District
*FWLM*
For informal communication, the unit may be referred to solely by nickname, as in Colonel Warhaawk of the Desert Rats
The second type of identification would be in game handles, otherwise known as uniforms. Now we don't know as of yet how handles will be implemented in IS3025, so the following is more geared towards MW4, but the principles should hold.
Your uniform is the Faction Tag you will wear on multi-player MechWarrior, and in MPBT when it goes live. It should be in the following format and the '=' sign standing for a space.
For enlisted personnel (not including lance leaders):
Regiment=RMD=FWLM
For example, Pvt Hassenffeffer, Junior Lance member of Bravo Company of the 1st Battalion of the 1st DoA would have:
1stDoA RMD FWLM
Whereas Cpl Jumanji Prime, Senior Lance member of Charlie Company of the 3rd Battalion of the 4thDoA would have:
4thDoA RMD FWLM
For officers and enlisted lance leaders, there is an extra tag, the command tag. This tag represents the unit you command and your position. Being that there are 3 companies in a battalion, and 3 battalions in a regiment, at the company or battalion level the tag would consist of a number and 3 letters. The number refers to which company or battalion you command, and the letters are the accepted 3 letter contraction as picked from the table below:
| Title | Rank | Tag |
| Lance Leader | Staff Sergeant or
Master Sergeant |
LL |
| Company Executive Officer | Sergeant Major or
Lieutenant jg. |
CXO |
| Company Commanding Officer | Lieutenant jg. or
Lieutenant sg. |
CCO |
| Battalion Executive Officer | Captain | BXO |
| Battalion Commanding Officer | Force Commander | BCO |
So as an example, the Battalion executive officer for the first Battalion of the 4th Defenders of Andurien would have a tag that would look like this:
1BXO 4thDoA RMD FWLM
Whereas the company commander of the Bravo company of the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Defenders of Andurien would have as his tag:
2CCO 1stDoA RMD FWLM
And the Lance leader of Charlie Lance, Alpha Company, Bravo Battalion, 4th DoA would have:
3LL 4thDoA RMD FWLM
Notice how at lower level units, you make no reference to the parent unit.
Note: Not all units have Lance Commanding officers for the alpha and bravo lances in a company. These roles are often filled by the CCO and CXO respectively. The decision is up to your BCO or RCO.
For regimental and higher officers, follow the following table:
| Unit | Title | Tag | Example |
| Regiment | Regimental Executive Officer | RXO | RXO 4thDoA RMD FWLM |
| Regiment | Regimental Commanding Officer | RCO | RCO 6thDoA RMD FWLM |
| Area of Operations
(Division) |
Area of Operations Executive Officer | AoOXO | AoOXO Andurien RMD FWLM* |
| Area of Operations
(Division) |
Area of Operations Commanding Officer | AoOCO | AoOCO Regulus RMD FWLM |
| District (Corps) | District Executive Officer | DXO | DXO AMD FWLM |
| District (Corps) | District Commanding Officer | DCO | DCO TMD FWLM |
*In the event that the tag does not fit, the Area of Operations designator may be dropped. For Example the AoOXO of Andurien may use AoOXO RMD FWLM
Col Liam
Earl of Andurien
Acting AoOCO
Andurien FORSCOM
Ryerson Military District
