Liam has studied clarinet privately for seven years. During this time he has been involved in community groups, such as the Oceanside Youth Orchestra, and school bands. In 2004, he received first place in the Junior Woodwind category of the Upper Island Music Festival, and, that same year, was the runner up at the Provincial Performing Arts Festival. For three consecutive summers, he has played in the Bard to Broadway Summer Repertory Theatre Orchestra in productions of "Mame", "South Pacific", and "The Sound of Music". In early 2006, Liam achieved the RCM Grace Six Clarinet with first class honours in both the practical and theory exams. This past September, he performed Heinrich Sutermeister's "Capriccio for Solo Clarinet" at the Qualicum Beach Harvest of Music. As well as being involved in the Ballenas Secondary music program, Liam participates with the Kwalicum Secondary music program in an inter-school jazz combo. He plays on a regular basis at an informal "Jazz Club" at the local arts centre. This summer, Liam will be involved in the Bard to Broadway production of "Guys and Dolls" before begining a Bachelors of Music program at the University of Victoria in Spetember. |
