The new NACAC Vision replaces the one adopted in 1997 and is consonant with the Athletics World Plan adopted by the IAAF Congress in Paris last summer.
Following are the basic tenets of the revamped NACAC Vision for the years ahead.
Vision
To remain the leading Athletics region in the IAAF, promoting the sport of Athletics in a drug free environment, embodying the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship
Objectives:
� To increase the competence level in the sport � To improve the quality and appeal of Events � To make Athletics the # 1 participatory sport in schools
I. To increase the competence level in the sport
Actions:
1. Conduct training courses for administrators of MFs. 2. Provide support to MFs in the transformation of their organizations. 3. Develop a model Template for MFs approach to and negotiations with sponsors. 4. Encourage and facilitate inter-MF communications and knowledge. 5. Encourage the annual exchange of the calendars of MFs. 6. Conduct periodic evaluations of the performance of MFs. 7. Create continuing education packages for coaches & technical officials. 8. Include Technical Officials on representative teams as an incentive. 9. Clearly define the role of NACACTFCA. 10. Encourage the establishment of National Coaches� Associations. 11. Expand the coaching base of those involved in the programs of the HPTC and develop an attachment program for Regional level # 2 Coaches at the Centre. 12. Conduct training of athletes at the national level. 13. Organize annual Training Camps at a developmental level for promising young athletes. 14. Clearly define the role of the HPTC in the development of athletes in the Area. 15. Improve the Pre-World Championships Camps for athletes from NACAC to optimize results.
II. To improve the quality and appeal of Events
Actions:
1. Undertake a comprehensive review of the format of existing events relative to entertainment appeal and marketability. 2. Introduce a NACAC Open Championships. 3. Ensure that existing and prospective competitions held within the area, both at national and regional level, are presented in a manner that promotes the sport of athletics. 4. Strengthen the Caribbean Circuit of International Invitation Meetings. 5. Encourage the establishment of Matches between territorially contiguous Members, as well as Triangular Events between nations within the NACAC area. 6. Determine precise ways of benefiting from the growing popularity of road running. 7. Create incentive schemes for outstanding performers in the sport. 8. Engage expertise in the development of a NACAC Brand and Brand Imaging. 9. Engage expertise to assist with the creation of attractive television packages of the region�s athletic events and of performances of the region�s athletes across the world. 10. Conduct event presentation seminars for organizers of area and national competitions. 11. Develop a user-friendly manual on Event Presentation appropriate to MFs in our area. 12. Introduce a systematic evaluation of meetings conducted in the area.
III. To make Athletics the # 1 participatory sport in schools
Actions:
1. Emphasize the importance of athletics in the development of the human condition and of societal wellness and the pursuit of health and fitness programs. 2. Identify, train and certify personnel to work within the school system optimizing the utilization of resources which have been trained by the IAAF�s CECS Level I program. 3. Aggressive introduction of the IAAF�s �Kids Athletics� (Fun) Program within the school systems throughout the Area. 4. Create an Athletics Beginners� Handbook. 5. Forge linkages with youth-oriented media aimed at securing the coverage of athletic events involving youths and athletes of all age groups. 6. Encourage and facilitate optimal stakeholder involvement (parents, teachers, children, media, public, private sector, government, etc.). 7. Develop a Talent Identification Manual. 8. Create incentive schemes for participation in the sport. 9. Establish Junior National Championships in each country. 10. Forge appropriate alliances with the private sector relative to the promotion of �Kids Athletics�. |
