2004 Olympic Qualifiers from the Leewards
ST. KITTS/NEVIS (information to be confirmed)

KIM COLLINS

Kim Collins of St. Kitts, the World and Commonwealth Games Champion has qualified in the 100m for the the 2004 Olympic Games, with a blistering 10.02s.  Kim currently ranks No. 2 in the IAAF World rankings and is 27th best based on his best legal time for 2004. He is currently the favourite to win the prestigous title of "fastest man in the World", for the Games being held in Athens, Greece.

TIANDRA PONTEEN

Tiandra Ponteen of St. Kitts and a freshman at the University of Florida, qualified in the 400m for the the 2004 Olympic Games, with a scorching 51.23 indoors.  The time was at then the 5th? best time in the World and a new "National" record.  The time also qualified her for the World Indoor Championship, held in Hungary in March.  Tiandra's time set a new record? for the University of Florida and was an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Indoor Championships. 

Tiandra is the second female athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games.   Diane Dunrod-Francis was the first qualifier from St. Kitts & Nevis.

Tiandra is also well placed in the 200m with a best time of outdoor time of 23.56s and a best indoor time of 23.57s. Her current best outdoor 400m is 51.97s, run on ??????.

These results suggests that Tiandra could be a finalist in the Summer Olympic Games, following her performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships where she placed 2nd.  She is also expected to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championship in early June.
