Anguillian Athlete wins silver medal at Junior CARIFTA Games (from www.radioaxa.com)

Junior athlete
Shara Proctor has retuned to Anguilla following an improved performance at the just concluded junior CARIFTA Games in Bermuda. Shara claimed a silver medal this year following her bronze last year in the jumps. President of the Anguilla Amateur Athletic Association Mr Kenn Banks was one of a small crowd at the airport today to welcome Shara and the other athletes home.

They have just returned from Bermuda where we took part in the CARIFTA Games this year. Our first medal, also won in Bermuda some years ago by Sandra Hughes and we are glad that Shara has repeated it this year and we look forward to her winning the gold next year. It is really a testament to her hard work. She has work hard to improve her skill and this year she made a much better performance in fact she was in first place until the final jump and she was just pipped at the tape by the eventual winner and we are pleased at that and trust that next year she would do even better. We also trust that our other athletes who also took part will also follow Sharas example and really work hard to improve their skill so that we can get other medals at the CARIFTA Games next year and the years to come. President of the Anguilla Amateur Athletic Association Kenn Banks.

Sports Director Mr Alkins Rogers was also present at the airport said. We are all are elated at the performance by Shara in taking the silver medal and as Mr Banks said it is certainly a testament to the hard work that she would have put out in preparation for the event. One however would want to recognize the hard work also by the coach of the Anguilla team Wilma Proctor, she really worked hard with the athletes and Im sure that Shara being her daughter would have gotten a little extra and certainly Shara achieving this great fete for Anguilla is extremely good not only in terms of Anguilla but in terms of my office for instance and the ability to say look what an Anguillian would have done and put this forward to Government and say we need additional funds for our young people, we have the talent and once we develop this talent our athletes can produce and Shara has certainly produced for us and we look forward for greater performances from her with the type of commitment she has.Sports Director Mr Alkins Rogers

Shara would be competing in the Under 20 category next year in the CARIFTA Junior Games.
