"This is my branch - Jemima Dorsey and Joseph Hobbs my direct ancestors.
I know many of the sources have Dorothy Clary as the mother of John Hobb's children, but others, notably "Hobbs Genealogy" film #875,144 state that it was impossible for Dorothy
to be the mother of John's children as she was too young. They are more
likely the children of Susannah, the widow of William Powell. She
brought 4 children to her marriage to John, and eventually deserted him.
A notice in a Baltimore paper (I don't have the date in front of me)
states that John disavowed all responsibility for his former wife's
debts, as she deserted him. Also, in his will he leaves one shilling
each to the Powell children, stating that this was the amount Susannah
brought to the marriage.
Dorthy outlived John. She refused to be executrix of his will (probably
because of her Quaker beliefs.) She thereafter married a non-Quaker, a
Thomas Higgins and finally agreed to execute John's will."
She was born on 6 December 1720.
She was the daughter of John Dorsey and Honor Elder.
Jemima Dorsey died before 1763.
