He was Deputy Collector of the Port of Baltimore during the second administration of President Cleveland, and an Elector-at-Large, 1880, for the Hancock campaign. He was born on 20 March 1843. He was the son of Thomas Chew Hopkins and Priscilla Worthington. John Thomas Chew Hopkins married Amanda Evans Wylie on 30 April 1879.
