| My name is Lenny Lustrino and I am the co-founder and president of this club at LHS. Habitat for Humanity is an international organization that is divided into chapters across the nation. Our Habitat Club at LHS was established in the 2004-2005 school year. We belong to a chapter called Habitat For Humanity of Westchester. We work side by side with them and the homes that they build around Westchester. If you want to learn more about this international organization visit www.habitat.org or the local chapter we belong to visit www.habitatwc.org (See links on home page)
The clubs main purpose is to: *Help at build sites across the county on weekends (Sat. or Sun.) early mornings to early afternoons *To raise money and participate in Habitats annual Walk For Homes Walk-a-thon *To fundraise as a high school club for this worthy cause This club does not have regular in school meetings participating on weekend builds replaces meetings. COMMUNICATION is done through E-MAIL, MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS, and FLYERS POSTED AROUND SCHOOL announcing an upcoming build. We will visit build sites approximately once a month. To participate in a build, permission forms must be filled out. We will make them available prior to a build. Transportation is not provided due to high costs we meet at LHS the morning of the build and caravan to the site. Carpooling can be worked out. Last year (2004-2005) we helped to sheetrock a new Yonkers home, learned how to frame a wall at the YMCA, and painted the exterior of an elderly womans home in Mt. Kisco. We also raised approximately $700.00 for the Walk-a-thon. If you have any questions at any time feel free to e-mail me, Lenny Lustrino, at [email protected] or speak to the Club Advisors Ms. Ganz or Ms. Nigro. |
