Notes for October 9, 2001:
Last Time:
The possibility of only three speakers at our assembly was discussed. 1 gay person, one friend of a gay person, and another person to talk about what the GSA is.
Should we or shouldnt we bring in outside speakers?
Should we have another administration meeting or just a meeting with the principal?
At the faculty meeting we should talk about the positives as well as the negatives.
If necessary, we could have a petition and media coverage to obtain time at a faculty meeting.
Should we have the student counsel work with us to go to Academic Support rooms to talk about the issues we wish to discuss?
WE HAVE THE GUESTBOOK!
K will get thank you cards for the people who signed the guestbook. She will also send thank you emails to the people who only left their email addresses rather than their home addresses. We will be filling out the cards next meeting.
People need to bring in stamps if possible.
AIDS day is December 1st or 2nd. We need money for ribbons and we need people to volunteer to put them together.
Brittni is the new official facilitator of the GSA. This means that she will call on members when their hands are raised to speak. She will also bang the gavel when the room is too noisy. THIS MEANS YOU LISTEN TO HER!
Coco spoke about
It is important to help people voice their opinions in the group.
How we need to keep attendance up this year.
As far as the community:
We can get articles published in local and national newsletters.
We can support GLBT owned businesses such as My Sisters Words book store and The Pink Paper, a local GLBT newsletter.
There is an AIDS Community Center on West Genesee Street that has meetings every Thursday.
Many AIDS patients cannot afford Meals On Wheels because of all the medical expenses they have. We can have a school fund raiser to aid these people. It will help us to be known in the community and give us peoples respect.
Next Time:
Are there any concerns with the GSA that anyone would like to voice?
The mission statement should be read. This includes the responsibilities of the officers.
Thank you notes.
Talk about inviting counselors and teachers to meeting.
Should we turn a name list into the counselors so they can give names to kids with concerns about GLBT issues?
