James Robert Kiger
May 7, 1971 - Army Sgt. James Robert Kiger, 22, of Buffalo, resident of this city most of his life, was killed Monday in Viet Nam when a land mine exploded. A graduate of Logansport High School , he was on his second tour of duty in Viet Nam. He had returned there only five and one half weeks ago. During his prior service in Viet Nam he was wounded on May 19, 1970, and received the Purple Heart. A native of Kokomo, he was born May 18, 1948. He was active in Boy Scouts for several years, was an Explorer Scout for three years, and was a counselor at Camp Buffalo Scout Camp. He attended the Calvary Presbyterian Church and was formerly employed at Baker Specialty and Supply Company and at Hendricks Printing Company. Survivors are three brothers and two sisters: Michael Kiger, Logansport; Melvin Harker, Flora; Lance Cpl. Fred Alvin Harker, with the US Marines in Japan; Mrs. Carolyn Redmon, Logansport; Miss Marcia Harker, Buffalo; grandmothers, Mrs. Cora Emerick, Kokomo and Mrs. Mable Burge, Rt. 1 Floa. Military services at 2 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Monticello, with burial in Buffalo Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. |
