David J. Iles

David Iles died Thursday, August 9, 2001 in Logansport Memorial Hospital. Born October 26, 1949, in Logansport he was the son of Robert and Delores Coble Iles. On April 2, 1977, also in Logansport, he was married to Marsha Kay Johnson, who survives.

David earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana State University. He was a professional teacher for 28 years. He served as department head of the Logansport High School Math Department. He also served as the assistant coach for the LHS boys and girls swim teams. This year he had been selected to be the Head Coach for the LHS Boys Swim Team for the upcoming season. He was an avid Cubs baseball fan. He coached Babe Ruth baseball for 25 years. He also helped coach Pioneer High School girls basketball with Dick Farrer. For three years he served as the freshmen basketball coach at LHS.

David was a member, elder, deacon and board president of River of Life Christian Church (formerly Ninth Street Christian Church). David loved his church and extended family very much. He was also a member of the Cass County Mental Health Association.

His hobbies included running and coaching his sons and his "extended kids".

Also surviving are his mother, Delores Iles, Logansport; two sons, John Steven and Brian David Iles, both attending Ball State University; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken and Bev Iles and Jim and Janet Iles, all of Logansport; a sister-in-law, Virginia Iles, TN; his father and mother-in-law, Nelson and Betty Johnson, Logansport; three aunts; one uncle and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Roger Iles.
