| From July 21st to 25th, 2002 we took twenty-seven of our players and one player from Giebel Catholic High School to Bethany College for a GREAT week of intense soccer team camp. We once again had the Alpha Sigma Phi house on campus with Eric Radcliffe and Coach Brad Takach as dorm supervisors. Our camp coach for the week was Kosmas Mouratidis, Head Men's Soccer and Track Coach and Lecturer in Physical Education at Bethany College. The week's focus was on attacking the goal, and scoring. We formed two teams "Brazil" (the older guys), and "Chile" (the younger guys). The two teams practiced together during the day, starting at 7:00 am and played their games in the evenings, after dinner. On Wednesday afternoon we participated in a 3v3 tournament with Senior, Jimmy Rogers' team advancing to the quarter final. On Thursday morning the teams participated in the "Games Day" tournament. "Brazil" won first place almost obtaining the all time record at the camp in scoring!! Laurel Highlands won the "Games Day" tournament for the 3rd year in a row!!!!! Sophomore Nick Midlik and Sophomore Matt Testa won the Coaches Awards for the camp. Sophomore Chris Detweiler had the opportunity to get to know his new coach as he traveled to Washington Hospital Monday night to get 3 stitches on his inner lip after a collision with a goalkeeper during the regular evening games. Overall the week was very exciting and productive, for those that went to learn, they had the opportunity to lean from a pro, and the social time with the team was extremely valuable. |
