Desiree is now over 3 weeks old and her cord still hasnt fallen off yet. With Andy I think it was 1-1/2 to 2 weeks when his came off. Should I be worried that it isnt falling off yet. i keep putting rubbing alcohol on it to dry it out. i dont know if it is really working though. she seems to have an innie belly button and just sinks back in. does that make sense. oh well.

We are doing great here in the Hill house. just adjusting to a new baby. I think Andy is getting the hardest adjustment though. he really is doing great but you can tell he is missing all the attention he used to get all to himself. he'll do fine though. Desiree is great and just the most adorable little girl. although I'm worried that her cord hasn't fallen off yet. it will soon. i guess. other than that we have been doing good.

i lost all my reg. weight when I left the hospital. but then again I only gained 10 lbs. and more than 8-1/2 lbs. of it was Desiree. and Ive lost 20 lbs. since then. still need to lose about 40 more lbs. though. i dont have the will power though to stay on a regular work out basis. i have good intentions when I start then it just starts to fade away. as a matter a fact I had a membership at Bally's started. went for a couple of months. then found out I was preg and never went back. even though I lost that pregnancy and didnt get preg again till 6 months later. just never got back in the grove of things.

well Desiree's cord STILL is there and she'll be a month on Monday (wow where has thee time gone...she's getting bigger definitely) anyways. i called the doc yest. they told me that because it's not red and fleshy right where it is connected not to worry. it's just one of those cords that are taking a little longer than normal. that it's poss. the cord was a little longer and thicker than normal at birth and that could be why it hasnt fallen off yet. but if I still seem concerned I can bring her in and they can check it out. so if that dang cord still hasnt fallen off in a week Im taking her in there and maybe they can do that zinc thing a friend of mine was talking about. i'm getting tired and frustrated of this thing though
Sep 12, 2000
Desiree is now 1 month and 1 day old. Her cord fell off today. Yeah! And I just called yesterday to get an appt with the doc because it started getting really gross. I was filling up like 3 q-tips at a time there was so much gunk on it. Guess it was just discinigrating (sp.). The nights are getting interesting. She has been deciding to stay up from 7 at night and not go to sleep until 1 in the morning. What kind of fun is that? Ah well. She is still so precious.
Sep 13, 2000
desiree is now eating up to 6 ozs. she usually tells me when she is full by pulling away from the bottle and not letting me put it back in.
Sep 20, 2000
Well I had my 6-week checkup today. He says everything looks good. He was surprised with how small my uterus was but said everything looks back to normal. I can resume all normal activities; i.e. exercising, working, etc. =-) (can you tell I'm excited)(giggle). He was just so excited to see Desiree. She was wearing an outfit that has a hat with it. He just loved the little hat she was wearing. He told me that if I get any extra pictures of her to bring them in at my next appt. in 5 months for my annual pap. Gee can you tell he was excited, lol!!! That's one reason why I like him so much.
Sep 21, 2000
I have been using formula now. i personally found the Enfamil a little better...Imo...it seems a little thinner in consistency than the similac...when I was doing both breast and formula though I found Desi getting a little fussy too. i thought it was cause of the mix of the 2 milks. i went to formula only and she got over it.
Sep 29, 2000
I have definitely given Desiree water before...I also give it too her when she just keeps eating and eating and eating cause I fear otherwise she is going to get an upset stomach and puke everything up real bad...she doesnt seem to have any probs w/ it at all...I also mix sugar in it...one time I didnt and don freaked saying she cant taste it and doesnt necessarily know its there and she can choke on it when you dont put sugar in it..
Oct 3, 2000
i use a pacifier for desiree. i did w/ Andy also. Andy just stopped on his own on his 1st b-day and Desiree seems to like it as well. it seems that sucking reflux is fulfilled by it. i figure why not, and I dont believe what they say about it messing up their teeth. andy's are just fine
Oct 7, 2000
Desi has a dr. appt coming up soon...Im sure she'll be good w/ the shots...Im just curious how big my chunky baby are...at 1 month she was already 11-1/2 lbs. When she was born she was 8.10 lbs. Im guessing like 13 or 14 now...shes killing my arm she is getting so heavy...Andy did the same thing when he was born...gained weight pretty fast till 15 lbs.
Oct 11, 2000
My baby girl sure is a big one. Desiree had her 2-month appt today. She now weighs at 13lbs. 23 in. long and her head circ. is 15-1/2 cm. She hit the top of the charts for all 3 categories. WOW! Poor baby had her shots too, she did not like them at all. They have a new vaccine also that they gave her. I was hesitant to have them give it to her. It is for the most common bacterias that cause ear infections, pnomiona (sp.) and other kinds of infections. I kept asking the doc questions about it. Said they have been testing it for a few years now, don't show many side effects and is real effective in preventing this strain of bacteria. She is so tired now from all those shots. She actually let me put her in her crib for her nap. Which she usually only lets us do when it is bedtime. Which she has been doing so well with that also. We can usually get her down to bed around 11-12 and she won't usually wake up until 6-7 in the morning. It feels good to get some sleep again. She is getting more playful and definitely more attentive. And her little gummy grins are just the cutest thing in the world. Andy has also been adjusting real well. He has this little stuffed elephant that he calls his baby and takes so much good care of it. The other night I caught him sleeping with it on his chest wrapped up in a blanket like I do with Desiree when I want to get her to sleep. It was too cute, definitely a Kodak moment. Well, just wanted to update you all on my babies.
Oct 19, 2000
I took Desiree to the doc yest...she is now weighing at 13-lbs. 8 oz...1/2 lb. in one week...we know she is well fed...anyway we took her because she seems to be getting a cold or something...she's all congested and stuff...doc gave me a prescription for a decongestant for her...I went to go get it filled...I waited at the drug store for an hour expecting it to be done in 15 min. turns out that they couldnt read a part of the prescription the doc wrote...they never did get an answer before I had to leave so now I have to pick it up today...Im so frustrated and not just with that...there is a bunch of stuff happening right now and I don't know how to deal w/ it...maybe Ill explain at another time...just to frustrated to talk about it now.
Oct 23, 2000
Well, she has now hit a new milestone in her life. Last night Desiree slept through the ENTIRE night. I put her to bed around 9:30 and here it is 9:00 in the morning and she is just starting to stir a little. YEAH!!!!! She has been really good about sleeping at night. Usually went to bed around 11:00 and would wake between 5:00 and 6:00. So she finally made it the whole night.

Before I was even preg w/ Desiree we had discussed names. Mainly because I was preg 6 months earlier. But we were going through all the girl names we liked and decided on Desiree. Although once we found the one we liked we couldn't decide on how we wanted to spell it for a little while. Eventually we found one we liked, LOL! Anyway, we decided that Rose would be her middle name since my grandmother's name was Rosemary and Don's grandma's name is Rosa, but we call her Rosie. Well it seemed fitting to call her Rose. It's cool cause her first name means to be desired or also so longed hoped for and her middle name is after the flower Rose. So she is my desired little rose.

Well I haven't been on in a while or at least long enough that I can do anything. I realize now how addicted I am to the internet and my email. My cable modem has been messing up real bad. It seems to only work for an hour or two a day and then quits for the rest of the day. What time it decides to work always varies. Right now it is working at 7:00 in the morning. Anyway I have been going through withdrawals. My funky work shifts haven't been helping at all either. I have been working anywhere from 5 to 12 hour days. Just depends when we can get Grandma to come over and watch the kids. No Fun at all. Desiree is doing real well. She has a dr. appt on Mon. to get some more shots. Doc wants to split them up so as they are as traumatic as having them done all at once, since there are now so many shots they give. I'm curious though how much she has grown again. Well, I guess I'll let you all go before my internet goes out on me again and I don't have a chance to save this. Talk to ya all later.
Nov 27, 2000
Well my precious baby girl just keeps growing. I took her to the Dr.'s today to get some shots. Since the doc wants to split them up so that it is not as traumatic for her getting them all at once. Anyway, she is now 15-lbs. even and 25 inches long. She is now into 3/6 month clothing and in about a size 2/3 diapers. It is amazing to me this stage she is in. She is not rolling over yet, as I don't put her on her tummy as much as I really should. She just loves to look and play with her family. She is a little giggle bot now. And she is really starting to play with her toys well. She is grabbing them, swatting them, and talking to them all the time. Andy is getting so tolerable with her as well. It is so hard to believe that almost 6 years ago now I was going through all this with him. I was looking at him the other day when he was playing on his Nintendo, and realized just how much he is growing up right before my eyes. I don't want to have time just keep flying. I want to cherish my children as long as possible. 20 years of raising them really isn't that long when they could live to be 80. Oops, got off track there. Andy just loves to kiss her and play with her. And his face just lights up when she smiles or laughs at him. If she is fussy and he is playing Donkey Kong on Nintendo we can just place Desi in front of the TV and she will just watch Andy playing in total amazement. It is pretty cute. Thanksgiving was pretty good for us all as well. We gave Desi some mashed potatoes as her Thanksgiving dinner. She was just gobbling them up. The rest of us got pretty stuffed too. Have you ever noticed that when we talk about Thanksgiving dinner we always use terms that go back to the turkey. Stuffed, gobbled, etc. Oops, Sorry.

I just went the other day to Payless to get Desirees free pair of shoes I was afraid they wouldnt fit her but they are actually too big yet and they are so cute. I love baby shoes. Anyway the offer expires I think like Jan. 31st so dont forget to get them. just to remind you all payless is giving away a free first pair of shoes for any baby born in the year 2000.

okay do you guys think this sounds like a food allergy. I am seeing the doc Monday for her but I'm curious now. We feed Desiree Enfamil w/ Iron formula. She was fine till lately. We were noticing that she wasnt pooping and real constipated. Then when she would try it would be so solid it hurt her little butt to do it. actually it was so hard for her she got herself bleeding. anyway, because of that instead of giving her the 3 scoops with her 6-oz of water we have only been giving her 2 scoops instead. that seems to be helping the poop problem. however, today everytime I try to feed her in the middle of eating she starts to projectile vomit ALL of the food that she just ate. I'm not meaning just a little puking, it is the whole thing and if she was sitting up it could prob. have hit the wall on the other side of the room. it really scared me. I gave her some Pedilyte (or however it is spelt) and she took that just fine and kept it down. sorry I know all this sounds really gross but Im just worried about my baby girl. like I said I do have a dr. appt on Mon. and when I called they said it is poss. to be the food but they will make sure then. what do you all think about it. food allergy or just a sick baby girl. p.s. a couple of weeks ago she had her hep b shot. the second one. her leg broke out in a rash where it was given but nothing other than that. unless all this could be a cause to it. it is very weird to me.
Dec 11, 2000
unfortunately I had to reschedule my appt for Desi. it is really icy and snowy. not very cool. last night I got stuck in an ice patch and couldn't get out for 5 min. there was a salt truck right outside my apt. complex that fell over from the snow, and there were a lot of other accidents caused by the ice and snow. didn't want to risk anything, especially with the baby. I didn't even go to work because it was so bad. I feel bad for those in MI, IL, and WI who are getting the brunt of our storm but worse because of lake Michigan.
Dec 14, 2000
Desi had her 4 month appt today. It was supposed to be on Monday however due to the horrible icy/snowy weather I had to reschedule it. Anyway, she is still 15 lbs. and now 26-1/4 in long. So I think they worked out to like 85% in weight and off the chart on length. My baby girl is real healthy and on track developmentally. I talked to him about the allergic reaction to the Hep B she had on her leg. He has decided he is going to hold off on giving her the last dose for a while. She had her shots today. Normally when she has gotten them in the past it's been no big deal to me, but for the first time in her entire life so far I saw real tears. My gosh it just tore me up. And since Andy had no school yet again today, he came to the appt also. When she was getting her shots Andy just looked so horrified and left the room after the first shot. It was actually pretty cute. Well, just updating you all on her progress.
Dec 14, 2000
Oh my gosh, My daughter just broke her first tooth in. I was holding Desi trying to sooth her from her dr. appt. and I kept feeling this little prick on my finger so I went to check in the light and sure enough it was her tooth. She only turned 4 months on Monday.

We hang our stocking on the top part of a built in bookshelf. Santa fills them on Christmas eve. Usually with a fruit a couple of little toys and tons of candy. We hang them from Dad to youngest child. Now Desiree, in order and we have stocking holders that have a picture in them so that we can place the stocking with the person. It works well and the kids love it
Dec 17, 2000
I missed the first time Desiree rolled over, kinda bummed about it cause she hasn't done it again since. Oh well, she'll have her time I guess.
Dec 30, 2000
well, I am finally back from our long ordeal with Christmas and whatnot. I'll tell ya I think I am still trying to catch up. Last Saturday we had our Christmas dinner with my family. I also had to work that day, so between work and the 5-foot mountain of presents I was already to crash that day. The kids got so much stuff there. I would have to say though that the best gifts they got was a Playstation 2 (yes we actually got one of those) and the Gameboy system that Andy got. I haven't seen the kids or Don for that matter since they got them. It was real fun though. On Sunday we went over to spend Christmas eve with Don's dad's side of the family. It was pretty nice. A lot of people I really didn't know. But I did have fun. On Monday we were able to stay here at home. Which was definitely more relaxing. We had Don's mom over for the day. What was weird is I woke up with the baby at 8:00 and my MIL came over at 8:15 and both of the boys were STILL sleeping. We actually had to be the ones to wake them up and tell THEM that Santa had come. Anyway we lit up the fireplace and played Christmas carols. Had a wonderful Christmas day. Since then, with three kids and Christmas trash all over the house. I have pretty much been trying to get my house back in order. It's a nightmare and then with work. NO THANKS!! Tomorrow is New Year's Eve and Andy is going to Zack's moms for the night. She is having a kids New Year's party. I think it'll be kinda cute. We might have Desiree go although we are not too sure of that one yet. We shall see. Don and I are going to my parents house for their annual New Year's party that they have. I'm sure we'll have fun. As we do every year. Except I think last year I was kinda crabby to everyone since I was like 8 weeks preggers, LOL! Okay well, I suppose I'll let you all go and I wish all of you a Happy New Years!
Jan 9, 2001
is it possible for a baby's gums to become so swollen from teething that the teeth go back in. I cant find Desirees tooth anymore. but I can still see it. weird.
Feb 1, 2001
well, okay this is what I have planed for Valentines Day. hopefully we'll be able to do it on v-day if not then we are celebrating the Monday before. but whatever, thought that counts thing. okay I have made everyone in my family a card and Don got little "coupons" (free date, back rub, romantic dinner, etc). I also want to get a little gift for all of them. For Dinner we are having an easy chicken stuffed manicotti w/ my heart shaped crescent rolls and a salad on the side. I have a strawberry drink that is going to go w/ dinner as well. For dessert I am making individual cheesecake cups w/ a stuffed cream cheese strawberry on top. Yummy. If you guys want any of the recipes I'd be happy to post. Just let me know. Then I think I will get a movie or something for us all to watch as a family. Later.

my daughter is in love with Nick Jr., it is so cute. I am holding her after having fed her and forget everything else she wants to stretch away so she can see the TV...she smiles at them, talks to them, even blows raspberries it them. by far so far blues clues seems to be her fav. she just sits and stares. too bad Steve is leaving...or at least being replaced. just had to share
