This page is dedicated to those who had been in refugees camp,who lost their beloved friends and relatives in perilous sea;who were unfortunately forced to return to their countries;
who couldn't speak because of language barrier or fear;who have never been there but want to empathize;who are uninterested but happen to pass by, and especially, to Vietnamese who luckily came to the US before the cut-offdate... I was in one of the very lucky groups that made it to Thailand safely. We were pushed into the ocean by Cambodia fishermen, robbed by Thai fishermen and abused by Thai police but that was about it. A lot of people went through so much more that you can not even imagine. My friends uncle watched his wife raped and killed; my close friend watched the women in his boat taken away by the pirate. He and other men were thrown into the sea and later were picked up by some fishermen and then left in a deserted island. Many people in his boat died of starving. All the girls were sold for prostitution. One of the girls escaped to report to the police. UNHCR (United Nation High Committee for Refugee) and Thai police found one girl in the group and offer her settlement in the US. She refused and wanted to bring her new born son back to Vietnam. These are just a few examples. I hope to collect some stories from the people I know and post them in the Refugee Stories section. For now, I only describe to you everyday life of refugee in these camps. |
