4th Lakeside Heights Brownies

The 4th Brownies held their enrolment in October. The girls were little seeds watered by the older Brownies and they turned into flowers by learning their Brownie Promise, Law, Motto, etc.

 

Activity report : Meetings from September until mid-October:

 Parent and girl meeting, name song with parents and girls(zoom zoom the Astronaut). Went over our closing, the meaning of the "handup", and clapping. We went over program, important dates, and activities planned from now until December with the parents.

Made circle groups, second years picked their names of group. Went over some songs for the RCMP Jamboree. Made Edible fires. Went over group songs and handed out their group crests. Girls made flowers for under toad stool.

Scarves:went over reef knot and played a game enforcing this. Hand shake and sign. Brownie ring and Brownie Song. Went over dues collection and opening of meeting. Brownie story told to first years by Julia.

Fire Drill and went over what to do in case of a fire. Went over Promise as a group, and did the grand howl and went over the reason for the grand howl. Had campfire.

Meetings from mid-October until mid-November.

Practiced for the enrollment and the second years stamped the invitations.

Enrollment night: the first years dressed as flowers and the second years were the farmers with racks etc. Campfire and squeeze.

Halloween party and badge testing, played the broom game and straw and eyeball game, Halloween sugar cookies and the girls decorated them with icing and of course ate them:). Spoke about safety for Halloween and cookie selling.

Went over edicquite for Remembrance Day Parade, dress, and flag carrying. Taught O Canada in English and French, history of the flag, folding the flag and caring for it, had the girls color a picture of the flag and make it into a puzzle for another girl to put back together.

Brownies around the World meeting: had it set up with four world centres, went on a magic carpet ride to each world centre, rotating the girls until they all went around. Info on England as well as sconces (blueberry) for the girls, Indian rice and a cauliflower dish for the girls, loads of info and a game and had Susan dress up in Indian costume. Also had Nachos and Salsa for the girls, we played a game calledchickens and hawk. And we drew pictures of the uniform in Mexico. The junior leaders played a game.

The Following pictures were taken at a second enrolment for a new Brownie. The girls were making a craft to take to the Seniors Home where the district goes annually for Christmas Carolling.

Meetings from mid-November until mid-December.

Taught basic first aid, made up active games.

Made clothespin Christmas card holders for seniors. (see pictures below)

Enrolled new Brownie, made get well cards for sick Brownie. Junior leaders did campfire and carols.

Junior leader Julia lead activity: "What is a Guide?" in preparation for invitation to 3rd Guide meeting on Friday. Discussed the proper use of phones, girls used play phones to practice friendly and emergency situations. Played more "original" active games.

Meetings from mid-December until mid-February.

Discussed bullying; reviewed hygiene and health. 1st years reviewed what to do when lost, 2nd years made up skits to show "Good Turn", J.Ls taught 'hippo song'. Enrolled new Brownie (planned completely by Julia and Kelly).

Tobogganing with Brownies and families, played hot stew game, 'campfire'.

Nutrition night- charades and game 'what's on your plate'. Bring a Friend night (give out pamphlets on Brownies, stickers and tatoos); Artis Root - pastry chef taught us how to make granola bars, discussed 4 food groups and a healthy lunch.

Read a story about being yourself. Discussed safety in the home, fire drill, 2 Guides taught us song - 'I'm a little piece of tin'.

Valentine's party- celebration with food, drink, craft.

Meetings from mid-February until mid-March.

Outdoor meeting, warm up relay, with balloons passing under and over, compass work, two games were played, went over hypothermia and frost bite and the importance of dressing properly outdoors.

Thinking Day participation story, word search on WAGGGS. Star gazing: finding direction through little/big dipper, the moon and the planets.

Walk around the neighbourhood, with an observation sheet. Went over active living charts. Caught up on program work, talked about the bag baffle.

Talked about our upcoming camp...planned by our Junior Leaders, which will be "The Wizard of Oz", went over kit list, did bedrolls, and played a bedroll game
