3rd Lakeside Heights Sparks
We were a small group of 7 girls and 2 leaders, but one of our girls from last year has decided to return and we have another girl who transferred from Ontario. So now we have 9 girls.
We meet after school in a local church and have a lot of fun and games while learning about guiding and what it entails.
Here are a few pictures of our unit at our recent enrolment.

Activity report : Meetings from beginning in September until mid-October:
Welcomed girls old and new.
Girls traced their hands on pink board and wrote their name in the hand print.
Read the story of Sparks, played games, explained how and what Sparks are.
Talked about the Olympics and Australia, what the Olumpic colors are and why.
Played with the parachute and showed how some of the colors of the parachute are in the Olympics rings.
Had mini Olympics, girls created their own flags andcarried homemade torches, opening ceremony with girls marching in, had spoon and egg race, obstacle course, basket race, potato race.
Medal ceremony, all girls won, closing games, sang national anthem.
Meetings from beginning in mid-October until mid-November.
Nature meeting: each girl collected an object from nature and talked about what they found, also collected leaves for a leaf rubbing craft.
Prepared for enrollment (made poster and invitations).
Enrollment (each girl slid down the slide that was decorated with a rainbow and pink balloons), read the Sparks story, had refreshments, song and closing (to show the parents what takes place at the meetings).
Halloween party: costume parade, party games (pin the nose on the witch, freeze dance, bats & bugs), craft of a ghost, every girl received costume awards.
Nutrition meeting: made apple muffins, showed Canadian food guide, played vegetable soup relay race, began to practice Christmas songs. Created collage of healthy vs. Non healthy foods. Talked about food allergies and washing your hands before and after you eat. Played parachute games to show connection between exercise and nutrition.
Meetings from beginning in mid-November until mid-December.
My body, talked about nutrition and body. Girls had and obstacle course, body drawing, played ball, practiced Christmas songs.
Phone safety and manners: each girl was given a phone, we role played manners, phone safety, calling 911. Looked up named in the phone book, played broken telephone.
Learning to identify: looked at pictures and described what they see, one leader left the room and girls had to remember something about her, covered a large picture board and girls lifted little windows and made a guess what the picture was.
Made Christmas crafts (candy cane reindeer, tree ornament), sang Christmas songs.
Special meeting at Jennifer's house, girls wore their pj's, made cookie craft, ordered pizza, watched Christmas movie, decorated paper slippers, Christmas story by the fire.
Meetings from beginning in mid-December until mid-February.
Winter fun day : made snow angels, looked for white objects in the snow,listened for nature sounds, bum sliding, made snow picture.
Mexico :talked about WFF, did Mexican hat dance, visited Our Cabana, playedpinata.
Skating at outdoor rink .
Switzerland : pretended to hike, ski,snowboard in the Alps. Visited Our Chalet, sang Our Chalet song, sampled Swiss cheese and Swiss chocolate.
India : visited Sangam, read storyabout Divali, learned about Indian food and culture.
Made Valentine craft.
Flag day/England : celebrated flag day, everyone received their ownlittle Canadian flag. Made crowns, sang God save the Queen, visited PaxLodge, had a tea party.
