2nd Lakeside Heights Sparks

We are a small group of 10 girls, a guide helping in the unit and 2 leaders.

We meet after supper in a local church and have a lot of fun and games while learning about guiding and what it entails.

Here are a few pictures of our unit at our recent enrolment.

Activity reports :

Meetings from beginning in September until mid-October:

 Intro to Sparks, sparks songs, the "name game", made"friendship chain" (craft).

The Olympic games: talked about it; made the torch; played games; everyone got a medal.

Talked about Fall; made bird feeders with pine cones and maple leaves; leaf tracing on paper.

Talked about Thanksgiving; made Native Canadian headband; had a Thanksgiving "feast" (apples and cereals).

I am growing" - measured height; made hand prints; learned about finger prints (finger painting).

Meetings from beginning in mid-October until mid-November.

Halloween craft (ghost and pumpkin), Halloween party (with 1st Sparks): costumes, games, pizza, scary story.

Enrollment ceremony (also with 1st Sparks).

Talked about Remembrance Day, craft of a poppy flower on a popsicle stick, games and show and tell.

Meetings from beginning in mid-November until mid-December.

We learned about winter (games), learned about Sparks from all over the world and sharing, Sparks story.

Christmas toy drive, made craft (Santa Claus decoration with paper plates) to give to the elderly.

Practiced Christmas songs, made Advent calendar.

Christmas party, magic reindeer food, candle holder craft, gift exchange, treats.

Meetings from beginning in mid-December until mid-February.

Winter games (variations of tag, relay games, etc?), made snow flakes,talked about New Years resolutions.

Learned about animals : girls broughtin stuffed animals and presented them, animal stories and paper puppets.

Chinese New Year (special guest : Kim Freeman) : paper cutting crafts,tangrams, learned Chinese words, stories, games, festive snacks, treats(red envelopes with gold coins). Made snow candles and snow angels, freezeand melt game, talked about Groundhog day.

Talked about Thinking Day,handed out WFF calendars, decorated the calendars, made coins collectorsfrom film canisters, talked about sharing with other people in the world.

Valentine's day : made heart-shaped pretzels, craft, treasure hunt forValentines treats.

 

Meetings from beginning in mid-February until mid-March.

Talked about hygiene, asked girls what are good or bad hygiene habits, game and craft related to theme.

Bridging with Brownies : Famous 5 Challenge.

Made craft for Tea & Bake, Spring flower pots with potpourri, also talked about importance of the event to our district.
