Task 2: Film
Elvis finds solace in escaping to the movie theater.

"He was convinced that his dancing was improving more from studying the moves in the movies than from anything Mr. Aggrey taught him.  The films also had soundtracks that ranged from the full orchestral grandstanding of the 1939 Technicolor hit
Gone with the Wind through to the Bangra pop of Bollywood flicks.  This music contrasted with the soul, jazz and highlife that filled his days, blaring from loudspeakers outside record stores or from nieghbors playing their sound systems too loud." p.99

Elvis even writes letters to Oye from her penpals using details from
Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Gone with the Wind.  Click on the cover of each film.  After experiencing each film post the answers to questions 1 and 2 on your blog.  You may hand write or type out your response to 3 which will be collected in class tomorrow.

1)  What elements of the three films do you think were appealing Elvis?
2)  Why do you think the films provided such an escape for Elvis?
3)  Write your own one page penpal letter to Oye using elements from the three films.
