The La Grange Highlands Civic Association is offering two $750 scholarships in 2001. The scholarships are open to high school students residing in La Grange Highlands.
Requirements:
A resident of the La Grange Highlands whose family is a member of the La Grange Highlands Civic Association.

Admitted to a school for post high school education
Application forms are available at the College Consultant's Office, North Campus, at Lyons Township High School, 100 South Brainard Avenue; La Grange Highlands Sanitary District office, 5900 Willow Springs Road; or by writing to the La Grange Highlands Civic Association, Box 357, La Grange, IL 60525.

The Deadline for applying for the scholarship is May 18.
ANNUAL CLEAN UP DAY IS SCHEDULED FOR MAY 19th
The Annual Clean Up Day, sponsored by the Civic Association is one of the privileges accorded residents who become members of the Civic Association. This will be held on SATURDAY, MAY 19th from 7:00 AM to 12 Noon in the Highlands School parking lot at 58th Place and Howard Avenue.
You must present your current membership card in order to take advantage of the dumpster facilities.
The following items will NOT be accepted: grass clippings, leaves, yard waste, branches, tires, car batteries, paint cans, motor oil, or sealed drums. Also, if you have heavy items to discard, bring someone with you to help you unload them.
For HAZARDOUS WASTE PICK-UP, call the West Cook County Solid Waste Agency at (800) HHW-PKUP, 449-7587.
BRANCH PICK UP WILL BEGIN MAY 1st to OCT.1st, 2001
Branch pick in the La Grange Highlands and other areas of unincorporated Lyons Township will begin May 1st and will continue until Oct. 1st. The actual pick-ups will be done on the 3rd Monday of each month, starting on May 21st through Oct. 15, 2001.
Branches should not exceed 4 inches in diameter and should be put on the parkway, not protruding into the street, in an orderly fashion with butt ends facing the street. Make sure that no other items are included in the branches as " foreign items can result in injuries to crew members and damage to equipment.
Wood chips, that are good for landscaping and for fertilizing, will be available at no cost and will be delivered to your home, call 708-839-0051.

Branch pick up is a service to our community and should not include trees that have been cut down by professional tree services and not hauled away by the company. If you have any questions regarding branch pick up, feel free to call the Highway Dept. 708-839-0051.
LOCAL CABLE COVERAGE
AT&T Cable does not cover any local events for the La Grange Highlands area. Events, such as, the Lyons Township High School games are not available to our community.

LIBRARIES
The La Grange Highlands do not have a library. Residents have to use other town's library facilities. The following are surrounding town's phone and standard fees for non-residents of the towns listed.
Membership to Suburban Library System (SLS) will give access to all the libraries listed and other libraries that are part of SLS.

JUNK CARS
An automobile, truck, or other motor vehicle which has been damaged to such an extent that it cannot be operated under its own power and will require major repairs before being made usable or such a vehicle which does not comply with State or County laws or ordinances. "Junk Cars" may be kept on private property only when in a fully enclosed structure.
Except: For a period of not to exceed six months while the car is being worked upon.
When located in an automated salvage yard.
TRUCKS
Trucks and other commercial vehicular equipment shall not be parked or stored on a zoning lot in an R-2 district. The exception is when the vehicle is located in a garage or a fully enclosed structure, or in such a manner, as not to be visible from adjacent rights-of -ways of from the windows of structures on adjacent zoning lots. Vehicles to be parked may be owned or legally controlled by the residents or occupants of the property.
