Earthen Jar

On the other side of earth from here
there lies a plain of jars, burial urns, thousands,
three to ten feet high, maybe 2,000 years old,
embedded in Laotian soil, and you wonder

Will wonders ever cease?

With the news of the find comes a map that shows
Laos and Los Angeles at either end of the globe;
given the scale it seems the earth itself would fit
into the tallest jar, and you wonder

Will humanity come to that?

Imagine the earth entire one large depository jar
that has swallowed up civilization because a few
willed to rule the many, and with odd logic turned
upside down that wonderful project

The United States of America

The overturning did not start with current purveyors
of global pandemonium, for the founding fathers
never conceived pure democracy; yet her modern
protectors show no shame, boasting

The New American Century

Are these homeland defenders pretenders who risk
hegemonic display to keep their own inheritance?
It's no wonder you feel less safe today than yesterday,
for you're only as safe as the civil rights they do deny

You might well wonder, where's the delight in that?
