You know you don't get the good news for keeps,
you get the good news to give it away.
Again, you don't get it to hold it,
you get it to be awake to it
so to hold it not, and you need not be

a Bodhisattva or a Benedictine monk
to face the testing, the tempting powers.
Still  you must be willing to look at your
will and when the day comes surrender it
Islam-like when you expect to the least.

You need not live by the Jain rule of
Ahimsa or The Great Judaic Laws
to notice the ants in the pantry or your
neighbors next door starving in their dark days
for some good news to save the fasting hour.

Some Good News

Deep
Down
In the pit
Of the soul
Abides
A light
Who
Dwells
Deeper
Still

You need not celebrate the Eucharist
daily to see, all things considered,
the constant gala all around.
