SUBJECT: Vocational - Basic Computer Repair - Memory

The EQUIPMENT and MATERIALS required for the lesson:

bulletHandout - showing the step-by-step construction process.
bulletComputer - from which the memory will be installed.
bulletMemory - the material to perform the task.

How INSTRUCTOR will FACILITATE student learning:

Introduction - Anticipatory Set (30 minutes)

bulletStatement of objective (from above) - BTEOLSWBAT (By The End Of Lesson Students Will Be Able To...)
bulletInstructor shows working memory installation.
bulletTie in the importance of using step by step installation process.

Instruction - Key Concepts (30 minutes)

bulletDistribute memory modules and handout to all students.
bulletRead step one on handout and direct students to DO that.
bulletRead remaining steps and direct students to do each of those.

Guided and Independent Practice (15 minutes)

bulletActual guided student practice as indicated above.

Checking for Understanding and Clarification (1.5 hours)

bulletObserve what students do and correct/reinforce as needed.
bulletAsk individual students questions about particular steps.

Conclusion - Closure (15 minutes)

bulletReemphasize importance of the step by step process.
bulletEncourage students to use handout as a guide.

How the students will be EVALUATED:

Through a performance test in which each student will be given a set of step-by-step instructions and a memory stick to be installed into a computer.  Students will then be asked to show the instructor that they can "successfully install memory inside a computer and work when computer is boots."

 

STEP 1: Get out the tools you'll need - Phillips screwdriver.

STEP 2: Ground yourself - static electricity can kill your computer.

STEP 3: Open your computer case - don't lose the screws or your placement.

STEP 4: Find the memory slot - its on the motherboard.

STEP 5: Remove the memory you are replacing - if necessary or find a new slot

STEP 6: Install your new memory - line up the notches, and push down.

STEP 7: Test it - turn on the computer to see if it works.

STEP 8: Troubleshooting - recheck your steps.
 

STEP 9: Close your computer case - make sure everything goes back.
