STUDENT EVALUATION SYSTEM
COMPUTER REPAIR TECHNICIAN OCCUPATIONS

Introduction:

Because of the highly technical nature of Computer Repair occupations and the many facets required to be successful in this industry, students will be evaluated by three methods. These methods are (1) multiple choice question quizzes or other written tests where only a single answer will be correct, (2) evaluation of lab work toward achieving competencies and (3) evaluations by job internship. By using these three methods, students will demonstrate their ability to process written materials, perform diagnostics, troubleshooting and repairs and develop interpersonal skills with workers and clients.

Quizzes

Quizzes will represent 20% of the student's total grade. As this is a class where competencies measure a large percentage of student learning, these tests will correlate with the actual lab work to be done in each segment.

Lab Work

Lab work will represent 40% of the student's total grade. Work to be completed in the lab will have been clearly defined in written form where students will be fully informed as to the required levels of competency to achieve a satisfactory to excellent grade. The following criteria for grading may be used as a guide:

bullet

5 points - Excellent: The student can completely explain and demonstrate the procedure being addressed. Student is able to provide information regarding other related processes linked to the specific procedure. Student shows evidence of organization and confidence in performance of the work. No errors are observed during the lab exercise.

bullet

4 points - Very Good: The student can explain and demonstrate the procedure being addressed. Student is able to provide some information about other related processes. Students show evidence of organization and completes performance of the work with little guidance. Few errors are observed and can be corrected with a small amount of direction.

bullet

3 points - Good: The student is able to generally explain the procedure being addressed. Student can name other related processes but may not be able to define the relationship. Student demonstrates appropriate sequence in the performance of the work yet requires mentoring by the instructor or a colleague. Errors are corrected as student moves through the lab work under direction.

bullet

2 points - Limited: The student shows very little grasp of the procedure being addressed. Student can name very few of related processes. Student may be able to perform segments of the task being addressed but is unable to complete the entire procedure even under direction.

bullet

1 point - Poor: Student has no ability to perform the procedure addressed although may be able to provide a limited explanation. Student requires task to be completely demonstrated and completed by the instructor or a colleague.

bullet

0 points - Incomplete: Lab task not attempted.

Job Internship Evaluations

Job Internship represent 40% of the student's grade. Internships are very important to be successful in the Computer Repair Industry because of the interaction with customers, co-workers and customers and the practical hands-on work experience. All students are assigned internships within the local R.O.P Center, High School campus and commercial businesses.  Internship are prearranged with these facilities and given a specific job tasks to acquire and perform in no more than ten total hours.  Students are allotted to have two hours per day for no more than a week.  Co-Workers will be provided with a satisfaction survey card. This survey will address two factions each on a 1 - 5 scale, 5 being very satisfactory and 1 being needs improvement.

Faction 1 - The satisfaction level addressed for ability to complete assigned tasks, workmanship of tasks and problem troubleshooting.

Faction 2 - The satisfaction level addressed for ability to work in a team setting, performance with customer support and client contact.

Grading

Student scores in all three areas will be calculated to determine an overall class percentage. Grades will be awarded as follows, no grading curve will be used:

bulletA 100 to 90%
bulletB 90 to 75%
bulletC 74 to 70%
bulletD 69 to 60%
bulletF Below 60%
