Situational Analysis 3 - Grab Bag

One of the things that has concerned me while a teacher for the past three years is recruitment.  At our R.O.P Center, we have some classes that are always seemed destined to be full while other class (like Information Technology) seems to hang by a thread.  Of course having a course and getting students interested is the ballgame to play.  The R.O.P Center itself puts out publications and informational flyers to advertise what courses are available but it seems not to be enough. I have tried during the last year to entice students by opening up a Friday night gaming event which has gone well but not brought in the numbers I have expected.  I have designed websites that detail the experience and information that will be gained if one of my courses will be taken.  For the most part, we do have enough students enrolling but I believe we can do more.

New attempts I have tried; is to work with the District's Student Services Department with their WE CARE program that gives special education students job experience opportunities.  My next class we both worked out to teach the students they recruit so that they have a training background before they go into the workforce.  I have also begun to set up an in class demonstration of how computer work.  We have a PC that we have called "FrankyROP" because we completely disassembled it and mounted it on a board.  All cases have been removed but the equipment is still functional.  We have a hard drive that lets you see the platters spin and the head read and write to it, a monitor with a open case to let you see the workings of the tube, a keyboard with all the keys removed except for the membrane that makes the input, cd-rom and floppy drives that show the discs moving and a printer that lets you see how an inkjet printer work.  The goal is to assign previous students or current students for extra credit to come to a class (versus the classes coming to us once a year) and recruit manually and keeping it simple.

Do you think this will work?  Does it need some fine tuning?  Or am I just being a teacher that wants students knocking down my door to get in?
