RE: Session 5 - 503WA1, Individual Education Plan

The purpose of EVOC 503 WA1 was to prepare an Individual Education Plan for one of the students in a course that I teach. The following six criteria were specified:

  1. Comply with all of the General Criteria for Written Assignments.

  2. Develop an "Individual Education Plan" for a particular "Special Needs Student." The plan should not be more than two pages (typewritten or word processed).

  3. Indicate the name of a student, but change the name of any real students (for this assignment) in order to protect confidentiality and briefly describe the course in which the student is enrolled.

  4. Describe the student with respect to gender, age and both mental and physical development (only observable characteristics: NO SPECULATION)

  5. Describe a specific problem that the student is having (again, only observable characteristics: NO SPECULATION).

  6. Describe an instructional strategy relative to helping the student overcome the problem. Be sure to indicate how and when evaluation will be made to determine if the strategy is working.

The following sources of information were used relative to this assignment:

  1. Nancy Allen - SPED Teacher, Palmdale High School

  2. Ghada Mourad - RSP Teachers, Joshua Elementary

  3. Charles Thatch - Assistant Principal (Special Education), Palmdale High School

I believe that the attached report meets all six of above listed criteria and respectfully request full credit: one point for meeting each of the above listed criteria.

Strategy:

Leonard has improved learning capability over time due to repeating the courses, his increase in test scores shows a steady retention rate to the information gained.  Previous instruction strategies used were one-one-one instruction and multiple mentoring.  It is my recommendation to use software based computerized training to support instructional resource.  The use of experience based training will allow Leonard to personally guide his learning as needed using different learning methods as needed.  Software provides instructions via visual and auditory communication that will allow him to repeat instruction until retained, the software provides resources to what he is learning in order to facilitate the research method.  The training program allows for a virtualized computer environment that will allow him to identify parts of the computer and put them together as would in real life.  This allows him to escape the pressure and intimidation he currently feels, Leonard will then be able to follow up with a live demonstration once his confidence has been met.
