PRE-COURSE SURVEY

This is the first year I used an a pre-course survey in order to better gauge student psychology and aptitude.  Another ROP Instructor in Automotive had introduced me to the idea, later during my Level 2 coursework it showed up as one of the assignments which changed my perception that it needed to be included as part of my curriculum from that point.  During the second day of class, the survey was handed out for students to complete, then everyone was asked after I had first gone to read some of the answers they put down at random when asked.  I was able to build a profile of the students on that day vs. as the days went by before, I was able to test their attitude towards the survey and how they presented it was much of the 'survey' as the questions themselves.  In my opinion, this technique should be used in all classes not just a clear demonstration for vocational instruction.

POST-COURSE SURVEY

The Antelope Valley ROP has always conducted a post-course survey towards the end of the school year in order to better evaluate not only our classes but the organization as a whole; the importance of this survey has a far reaching impact.  For the classroom, it helps each instructor find if their course goals were met so that objectives can be updated, added or realized.  For the ROP, it can determine if they are filling the communities needs and gather the data needed for the yearly analysis and synopsis for state and district reporting.  We have experimented with many surveys and have found that the online method had worked the best.  It allowed students to complete the survey while in class, at home and was easy to compute the numbers at the end.  It was also determined to save money, time and staff support.
