Other books by Dan Millman: The story is about a young man, Dan Millman, who has set out for college at U.C. Berkeley Late one night, he awakens from his dreams screaming, decides to go to a nearby gas station to pick up a snack, and bumps into an old man, the attendant. The old man becomes Dan's spiritual guider, teacher/guru, and Dan calls him Socrates. Socrates teaches Dan to understand why Dan feels a void in his life and that material successes, such as doing good in school becoming an excellent gymnast and being successful in our terms, is not true happiness. By showing Dan the suffering for the world and the way of the warrior, he slowly brings Dan to enlightenment. The book had many important lessons but basically was a good guide to help anyone that wishes to take the path of a warrior and learn to live happily he book had many important lessons but basically was a good guide to help anyone that wishes to take the path of a warrior and learn to live happily. What I believed of the Peaceful Warrior: The most personal value from the book for me would be "living in the moment". I realized living in the moment doesn't mean that you must only think about exactly what and where you are at that precise second, but to recognize all your feelings emotions and thoughts so that you understand where they come from, why they emerge, and what you are to do with them. Living in the moment is a high level of consciousness of oneself. My own "peaceful warrior" training came about during the darkest time in life of my late teens, employing the fact that my life is my own on what is now and not the before and what's later has helped me throughout my struggles in life and challenges. I have applied this mainly in my professional life where my focus to survive in the world where my ethnic profile and non-college education seems not to favor someone without this trait. Now that my life-long profession will involve many young and perceived minds, not having this through the next thirty odd years would take a toll on the teacher and thus irresponsible to the students. |
