Educational Terminology - Terms important for
EVOC 501 Scholars in order to facilitate clear communication between all
parties to the learning process.
 | Affective - Influenced by or resulting from the emotions. |
 | Anticipatory Set - A brief activity or event at the beginning
of the lesson that effectively engages all students' attention and
focuses their thoughts on the learning objective. |
 | Cognitive - Learning, postulated by Abraham Maslow, that is
based upon intellectual processes. |
 | Competency - A specific, clearly defined (observable and
measurable) act that can be performed correctly by a person in the
context of accomplishing a particular task. |
 | Constructive Criticism - Words spoken or written, addressed to a
particular person, that suggest a specific way in which that person
might do something better. |
 | Demonstration Method - An instructional method where the instructor
shows students how to do a specific task. |
 | Directed Discovery - An instructional method where students are led,
hands on step by step, through a specific process. |
 | Distance Learning - Method of meeting EVOC 501 course requirements
by accessing and posting course related materials on the World Wide Web.

 | Evaluation - whether or not the objectives were reached. |
 | Facilitator - A person (such as a teacher) who helps someone (such
as a student) to accomplish a specific task. |
 | Humor - The ability to perceive, enjoy, or express what is
amusing, comical, incongruous, or absurd. |
 | Identify - The verb that means to select the correct choice
from among several alternatives (such as in a multiple choice test
question). |
 | Instructor's Score sheet - Criteria that must be met to earn
the points indicated. |
 | Integrity - Steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical
code. |
 | Lecture - An instructional method where the instructor presents
information to students by telling it to them. |
 | Lesson Plan - A one page document, based on a specific student
performance objective, that indicates what the instructor will do to
help students meet the objective. |
 | Mandated Skills - series of requirements students must meet
at certain grade levels. |
 | Motivational - Behavior of an instructor that stimulates student
interest in what the student needs to learn. |
 | Performance Test - compared with the performance of a tests
completed after instruction and growth can be ascertained. |
 | Portfolio - keep your work and accomplishments organized. |
 | Positive Reinforcement - Words spoken or written, addressed to a
particular person, that praise something that person has done well. |
 | Professionalism - Professional status, methods, character, or
standards. |
 | Psychomotor - Learning, postulated by Abraham Maslow, that is based
upon physical movement. |
 | Scholar - Each person enrolled in the EVOC 501 course is. |
 | Student Performance Objective - A concise statement that indicates
exactly what a student should be able to do as the result of a specific
period of instruction. |
 | Teaching Credential - A document which verifies that the person
named thereon has met specific requirements, mandated by the state to
qualify as a teacher. |
 | Web Browser - a software application used to locate and
display Web pages. |
 | Written Test -

Guiding Principles - Found to be important regardless of
political leanings race, gender, or religious convictions. (adapted from

 | Respect - Regard, value, admire, appreciate. Special esteem
or consideration in which one holds another person or thing. To show
regard for yourself, others, and the world around you. |
 | Responsibility - Regard, value, admire, appreciate. Special
esteem or consideration in which one holds another person or thing. To
show regard for yourself, others, and the world around you. |
 | Trustworthiness - Reliability. Dependable, deserving of trust
and confidence. |
 | Loyalty - Faithfulness, dependability. The quality of being
faithful to another person in the performance of duty; adhering to a
contract with another person. To show others that you are dependable
when you have a commitment to them. |
 | Honesty - Truthfulness, sincerity. The act or condition of
never deceiving, stealing, or taking advantage of the trust of others.
To be truthful in all that you do and never deceive, steal, or take
advantage of the trust of others. |
 | Compassion - Kindness. The desire to help others in distress.
To show kindness and concern for others in distress by offering help
whenever possible. |
 | Perseverance - Hard work. The quality of trying hard and
continuously in spite of obstacles and difficulties. |
 | Courage - Bravery. The willingness to put one's beliefs into
practice, the capacity to meet danger without giving way to fear. To
face difficulty or danger and express your beliefs even if you are
afraid. |
 | Deliberateness - Giving serious consideration to something.
To think things through with proper care before taking action. |
 | Initiative - Eagerness to do something. To take responsible
action on your own, without prompting from others. |
 | Optimism - Positive beliefs. The inclination to take a
hopeful view or think that all will work out for the best. To strive to
be positive in your beliefs about yourself, others, and the future. |
 | Adaptability - The ability and willingness to change. To put
oneself in harmony with changed circumstances. To be ready and willing
to adjust as necessary to the changes in people and circumstances that
arise in daily life. |
