When One-of-a-Kind Art Gets Trashed

A sculpture entitled Party Down, containing a 12-pak of empty beer bottles, was accidentally tossed in the recycling bin by a nightime custodian at the California College of Arts and Crafts.  The piece, made by the artist LG Williams, was to be part of an exhibition at the school's Oliver Art Center Gallery.

"We terribly regret the incident," said Zante River, the coordinator of the exhibition.  "The only consolation we can take from the tragedy is that the art is, in fact, being recycled.  Who knows, it might end up as a glass giraffe blown in Arkansas."

Williams said this wasn't his first artwork to fall into a custodian's hands.  Another piece, Commerical Mop, was used to clean up a child's accident at a previous exhibit in New York.  (Rob D'amico)
