10 June Ran 3 miles - The training started today at 7 am. We all showed and tried to guess what we thought our time for a mile would be. Then 3 miles later, and coughing all the way from the cold I'd developed, I realized how slow I run now. 41 minutes for 3 miles isn't the most respectable time. Oh well. 12 June Ran 2 miles - Today was my first "maintenance run". These are runs during the week to keep reminding your body what you are trying to do. I did purchase the watch they recommend. It has interval timer. So it beeps at me when I've completed the 2 minute run period so I can start the 3 minute walk period and back and forth. 14 June Ran ~2.5 miles - I ran with the interval timer on the watch, but went down to the local track to run. Since I was running for time not distance, I must admit I didn't keep track (no pun intended). Teri ran her 3 mile time/distance run and came out to be in the same pace group as me so that's good. We can train together now. 17 June Ran 4 miles - Another run with our pace group. After a quick stop for a potty break, we finished our 4 mile run in 1 hour 7 minutes, right on our pace. Everyone in the group is starting to get know each other and all the encouragement during the last mile really helped. 20 Jun Ran 1.5 miles - Teri and I actually did our training run together and even managed to get back to the softball field before Teri's game (which they won of course). 22 Jun Ran ~2.5 miles - Teri had a office party tonight so I had to run along. But that's okay. She walks several times a week with a neighb or so she gets all her exercise during the week in. The big test will be running 5 miles on Sunday. 26 Jun Ran 2 miles - Ran around the neighborhood again on a maintenance run. Didn't really want to, but the office raised $187 at a fundraising lunch today, so I had to run. 28 Jun Ran ~2 miles - Teri and I managed to get in a full run before going out to dinner. We had a whole crew going to Indian food. 1 Jul Ran 6 miles - Well we did we managed to get through close to a 10k run. Next week will be the big one for me. I've run 6.2 miles for a 10k race before, but the 7 miles next week will be the longest I've ever run at one time. The other big news was my mom. She came out to cheer on Teri and I. Plus she earned $20 for our team by volunteering to pass out water. 4 Jul Ran ~3.1 miles - The Services squadron of LA AFB sponsored a 5K fun run for the holiday. So Teri and I went down to do the race at our training pace. The course was a little confusing to say the least. So we're really not sure how far we ran. Plus Teri decided to see how it would go if we ran at faster than our training pace during the run times. It went badly, they recommend the training pace for a reason. Glad we learned that lesson early. 6 Jul Ran 2 miles - First Happy Birthday to my sister Heather. It was getting late and we had yet to eat dinner or do our maintenance run. So Teri had a flash of brillance. We drove to Olive Garden, parked, ordered takeout, went for our run, came back to pick up dinner, and go home. Unfortunately, they didn't take down Teri's entree order and we forgot to check until we got home. 8 Jul Ran 7 miles - We actually did it and survived!!! The weather was much cooler this week which, I think, helped us feel better after 7 miles today than we did after 6 miles last weekend. 10 Jul Ran ~2.5 miles - Went for run in the neighborhood and actually got lost. I ended up running about 1/2 mile longer than I had intended too. 12 Jul Ran 2 miles - Decided to run down at the beach for a change of pace. Unfortunately I forgot to look at exactly where I parked and had to go looking for my car at the end of the run. 15 Jul Ran 8 miles - I can't believe we actually did it! Plus we got to run along the beach. The weather cooperated and stayed cool today. We also hit the halfway mark for fundraising this week. We're so proud and thankful for everyone who has supported us. 17 Jul Ran 2 miles - I had to get up early today to run before traveling for work today. I am off to Chicago for a couple of days. I can't wait to tlry the pizza.
Crystal's Marathon Diary
Teri, my roommate, and I have joined with AIDS Project Los Angeles to raise money and train for a marathon. This diary will trace my training, the good (hopefully) with the bad.
