Bartholomäus Gansmann/Gonsamn #191 (1812-1889) Descendants Ancestors Tombstone
Wife: Katharina Maus/Moss #495 (1814-1892) Descendants Ancestors Tombstone
- From Bauer's book: "Die Familie ist nach Amerika" The last child born in Biblis was Franz,
- born 23 Sep 1837.
- Notes from Pat Gonsman: Bart and Catharine settled in East Freedom, PA (south of Altoona)
- in the 1840's. Bart is in the 1850 and 1860 censuses as an ore burner. They're also in
- the 1870 and 1880 censuses. As often happens, there are age discrepancies in the censuses.
- He was naturalized 25 Sep 1847. Bart's Port of Entry is unknown.(NY?) No pictures of Bart
- and Catharine are known to exist, but we do have tombstone pictures. Bart and Catharine
- are buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Newry, PA. A stone nearby is marked 'Child'.
- Allegedly, Catherine had a daughter die on the ship to America, just outside New York.
- Bart and Catharine asked that they be allowed to keep the body so that it could be buried
- on land. The 'child' is allegedly the girl that died aboard ship.
- LFK Notes: The story line of this couple will probably yield more information and anecdotes
- of great interest. As a typical family historian, Pat will probably not rest until the entire
- story is solved! Thanks Pat. (Pat can be e-mailed at [email protected])
