About BIBLISER IN AMERIKA

My interest in Biblis started when I found out that the word 'Biblis' that appeared on the first page of the Friedrich Kercher descendants and ancestors pages given to me by Marty & Urban Kercher actually meant a town in Germany and not the word 'bible' in German. It didn't take long after that to find out that Biblis records dating back to about 1580 were available on microfilm and could be ordered and then viewed at any local Family History Library of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Using various releases of their Personal Ancestral File (PAF), I now have a Biblis related file with over 15 thousand names. The 'Biblis Amerika' homepage on geocities is meant to be a vehicle to show what I have on some of the U.S. immigrants from Biblis and to be a gathering homepage for the remaining Biblis emigrants and all their descendants in North America. So, if you have information to add, or know of someone who might, please let us know. If we all pitch in, this project can be fun, exciting and done in no time! At some time, if there is enough interest, we'll have a 'Bibliser in Amerika' reunion somewhere!! Ongoing thanks to my sons Bryan and John and to my brother Dennis. All three are very helpful. John helps with both hardware and software. I easily get spoiled with him and his computer skills around. Bryan constantly surfs the internet for possible 'Bibliser in Amerika' information and is active in finding better ways to 'spread the word'. Dennis provided the initial encouragement for the site and continues to suggest improvements. Our first goal is 50 thousand 'Bibliser in Amerika'! Currently, we have over eight thousand. What we're working on: (3 May 1998) 1. Just added about 400 names to the Elisabeth Hertling #323 list. Thanks to Viola Kieffer of Mt. Carmel, IL for sending it and to her son Charles for getting it together. 3 May 1998 2. Of the approximately 1700 names in '150 Years In America - The Reis Family History' by Barbara J. Post and Raymond H. Reis, S.J., only about 200 have been added! (A copy of this very nice book was given to us by Bill Reis of St. Louis.) 3. Just received a 'mother load' of data from Hans Hertling of Stockstadt. He sent it to me while he was on vacation in Florida in March/April. As I get time I will be gleaning data for this website. Seems like a substantial amount of information. Hans wants you to know that he is avidly interested in Hertling genealogy and he is available via telephone, e-mail, fax and snail-mail (regular mail). He can be reached at: Hans Herbert Hertling Tel: 06158-85602 Berliner Strasse 10 Fax: 06158-895287 D-64589 Stockstadt E-mail: [email protected] Germany 3 May 1998 4. Dick and Sally Seib, Evansville, IN, descendants of Johann Seib #719 and Magdalena Gansmann #208, are working to send their data for the project. 5. Many more Kissel, Beckerle, Keil, Gauer, Freihaut, Ritzert, Reis, Hertling, Seib, and Kunz descendants exist in the Evansville area and are being systematically rounded up as time permits. 6. Received info from John and Barbara Aramowicz of Perth, Australia. She is a great-grandaughter of Barthel "Bart" Freihaut #164. Barb has sent me what she has of Bart's descendants along with a jpg of Bart, himself, which has been added to 'Bibliser in Amerika'. John was recently in the States visting his mother, et al and has in motion the machinery to gather more Freihaut genealogy. John and Barb may be e-mailed at [email protected] 3 May 1998 5. Finally, the site will be continually updated with respect to user friendliness, esthetic values. 6. ENJOY! Leroy F. Kercher [email protected] 4001 N.
