Eau de Chlorine

Eau de Chlorine.  Ah yes!  My favorite smell.  It's my aroma, my perfume.  It follows me everywhere - that antiseptically clean smell of someone who spends her life in chlorinated water.  Between swimming, lifeguarding, teaching and coaching I am generally at the pool AT LEAST 25 hours a week - and trust me, there are NO SHAMPOOS, NO SOAPS and NO SHOWER GELS that can truly remove the unique chlorine smell of a water baby such as myself.

That aside, welcome to my site.  It is dedicated mostly to Canadian Swimming, although I am doing my best to find Lifeguarding and teaching links.   So come on in, splash around, and feel free to give me some feedback when you're done by signing my guestbook.  Also, please check out these two articles I've written, one  about
Canadian University Swimming and the other about the I Can Swim Fast program.

International Swim News

Four national records fell during the prelims and finals on Day four of the
US Nationals.

Lenny Krayzelburg (Los Angeles, Calif) won the 100m backstroke in a U.S. Open and meet record time of 54.00, the fifth-fastest time ever, making this the fifth-straight time he has swept both backstrokes at the national meet.

Ed Moses (Burke, Va.) and Megan Quann (Puyallup, Wash.) also broke meet records in finals, as they were crowned the men's and women's 100m breastroke champions, respectively.  Moses posted a 1:01.21.

FINA Hands Down Suspensions

The FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur) doping panel held a hearing August 9, 1999 on positive doping cases and decided that swimmer Wang Wei (CHN) tested positive for clenbuterol (Beta-2 agonists) She's been suspended for three years commencing April 13, 2000.  Swimmer Xiong Guoming (CHN) also tested positive for the same chemical and has been suspended for three years starting August 9, 1999.  Both tests were taken as part of FINA Out of Competition Doping Control Program on March 8th, 1999.  For both swimmers this is the second doping offence committed under the FINA Rules.

Stormin' Morgan at British Grand Prix

At the British Grand Prix finals held in the Ponds Forge swimming pool in Sheffied on the 29th-31st May, Carnegie's 17 year old Bryan Morgan broke the Scottish senior record for the 100m freestyle.  Swam in a time of 51.10, Morgan's swim beats the previous record, set by Paul Easter at the 1984 LA Olympics.  His time of 51.10 ranks him as No. 1 in the World for 18/under.
