The January meeting of the LF&G was held on the 2nd at the Manchester Firing Line 35 members attended and the raffle raised $80.
Elections were held as scheduled and went without a single chad being dimpled, hung or impregnated. President; Mark Krochmal, Vice President; Joe Morrison, Secretary; Ken Blanchard, Treasurer; Rich Berthiaume. Board of Directors, term expiring 2003 Jim McCloud, Jean Krochmal, Rich Berthiaume, and Mark Krochmal filling out Art Pollaks position.
There is now a safety committee consisting of Rich Berthiaume, Scott Hatch, Rudy Timpe, Ken Timpe, Dana Garret, Ken Blanchard, Joe Galimi, and Alan Goetz. Effective at the January meeting new members are required to attend a safety orientation. This is primarily to make sure that they understand the range rules, safe firearm handling, range procedures, etc. Keys and membership badges will not be given until completion of the orientation.
It was brought to LF&G attention that Wilson Hill was shooting IDPA style matches. This type of shooting is a draw and fire timed event, which takes place at close range. Much concern arose because the distance is approximately 15 feet from the steel backstop and bullet splash back at that distance greatly increases the potential of injury. Because of our reciprocal associate membership agreement it was feared that any injury incurred there would drag LF&G into litigation, and of course the reverse is also true. Being that LF&G has far greater assets, it was felt that LF&G was in a position of risk it should not be in. After much discussion a vote was taken and overwhelming passed to dissolve the associate membership effective immediately. Wilson Hill associate members who were paid by 1-2-2001 were up graded to full member status.
The power line construction is well underway. Although I have not been able to see it myself members have reported that "all the trees are gone" and "they are working right behind the 100 yard backstop" If anyone is working behind the backstop or anyplace downrange from the firing line, DONT SHOOT!! It is obvious that we have a new set of problems to deal with and we will do so as they arise.
The next meeting will be held February 6th.7:30 pm at The Manchester Firing Line (formerly Wolf Range)If you need directions call them at, 603-668-9015. Jim McCloud is letting us use his classroom free of charge.
