Qupid, Chyll, and Luckie are members of an R&B group known as Fetish. In an era when most young men are opting for careers as hip hop and rap artists, these three young men never let go of their R&B roots, and grew up admiring and imitating the great R&B artists of the 70's and 80's.
The trio has been performing together foe nearly 7 years, and started out singing acappella (without music).
Two of the young men honed their singing skills in church, with Luckie starting at Browns Temple COGIC, and Chyll at Overcoming COGIC. Qupid polished his skills growing up listening to olde school music. "I tried to sing just like them. Now, I've grown into my own image. As a member of Fetish, we have our own distinctive sound."
It was at a StarCase 2004 contest at Centro Asturiano that gave the members of the group more exposure, and because they performed so well, they were eligible for the StarCase 2004 grand prize of $25,000 in cash and prizes. As far as Fetish is concerned, the members said they are trying to bring back the natural groups who just stood and sang. "Thoose groups didn't need a lot of moves or fancy outfits, said Qupid. "The group Jodeci is an example. They happen to be one of our favorite groups."
The members of Fetish said they want to bring back the raw memories of R&B everytime they perform. They already know the formula that makes a group unique, and all agree it begins with pure stage performance. "I think we're well respected in Tampa," said Luckie. "We sing sometime in malls, on the street corners, or whenever we can be heard."
"We've opened shows for Ginuwine, Ideal and other artists. We've also been in close contact and have met nationally recognized groups. They all have encouraged us to keep going, and are egare for us to record so they can get some of our releases." Although the group has performed in Atlanta, they all said they will represent Tampa, and would appreciate the support of everyone there. "We think we're where we should be, and we thank everyone for their support and we won't disappoint any of you," said the group collectively. Hush Corporation is helping us prepare ourselves for opportunities to market our careers and see if we can put together most of what's missing to gain a music or production deal. As far as their is concerened, Festish writes, produces, records, and mixes their own music, and none of them have been professionally trained. "However, thanks, to meeting Lewis Bingham and Freddie Jermaine, tremendous direction is now being structured on a different level, the business portion. They have a smart interest in us, said Qupid and Luckie." Both executives are placing a great deal of effort and company time to get us what's needed without hesitation to bridge our chances to be the best. Both Mr. Bingham and Mr. Jermaine has given us global recognition to increase our visibiltiy and portfolios. This is opening new areas where we are now gaining a professional playground to be ready for the world. And the best part about it is that we are now getting global attention being linked with Hushworld.
The group got the name Fetish from a television show about cravings All the members felt the name was appropiate, and hope that the audiences everywhere will be craving to hear them sang. Reporter Leon Crews of Florida Sentinel Bulletin News, Tampa.
