8xxxx Miscellaneous manufactures

81101 Prefabricated Collapsible Structures Generally metal or synthetic (or mixed) structures that unfold to form the shells of buildings only, without interior partitioning, finishes, or utilities. Widely used to erect quick dwellings, and even more commonly to set up warehouses, storage facilities, barns, garages, workshops, and other structures that do not need much interior comfort.

Base Unit: Container. 50 tons per container.

Typical Quarterly Market: Base x(MIN.+AG%) x 1container, x 6 if heavy colonization, x4 if moderate colonization, x 2 if light colonization, /2 if stagnant growth, /4 if population is declining.

Market Volatility: High

Typical Quarterly Source: Base-8*(IND%)*10 Containers *1d10-3. (this D10 represents the relative strength of the Prefab industry here. The Game master may replace this variable with a number of his choosing) A negative number means no prefab industry.

Source Volatility: Moderate

81102 Prefabricated Modular Buildings This is an oddity- as colonies become more established, the demand for prefabricated modular buildings goes down, not up. Prefabricated Modular Buildings are fully equipped buildings with utilities already built in (but they are unfurnished) ready for immediate occupancy and use. Some are residences, some are offices, others are dedicated workspaces of all kinds. Buyers are dealers and organizations of all sorts. Sellers are manufacturers.

Base Unit: Container, 15 tons.

Typical Annual Market: For Markets of Base 1-5, 10 containers , 6-10, 15 containers, 11-20, 20 containers, and 21 and up, .12 containers., x (Wealth Mod), Double or triple market if world is experiencing strong or moderate colonization. 1/2 market if world's growth is stagnant, 1/4 if declining.

Market Volatility: High

Typical Annual Source: Base-10*(IND%)*5 Containers *1d10. (this D10

represents the relative strength of the toy industry here. The Game master may replace this variable with a number of his choosing)

Source Volatility: Moderate

81314 Commercial, Industrial, Institutional lighting fixtures. Generally lightweight and easy to move, these run from simple overhead fixtures used in institutions to decorative street lighting to area outdoor lighting. Demand will be sporadic and therefore this cargo is tricky if bought as speculation. Pay attention to security problems in your market area- an upsurge in security concerns can drive a sudden run on heavy duty exterior lighting. Also look for large engineering programs, major institutions, industrial centers, or sports and recreation facilities being built, urban upgrades, etc. As these are not often spur of the moment purchases, make an effort to collect orders for delivery on your next run. Buyers may be institutions, developers, or construction supply firms.

Base Unit: Pallet. .5 to 2 tons per pallet. (Heavy pole mounted fixtures, such as street lighting, will weigh more, with decorative cast metal units at the high end, and wall or ceiling mounted synthetic units at the low end)

Typical Annual Market: Base modified by 2* wealth Mod *0.5 pallets * d10. (the d10 is optional, the gamemaster may use another variable to represent current/anticipated construction or lighting replacement activity)

Market Volatility: High

Typical Annual Source: Base*IND%*20 Pallets *d10. (this D10 represents the relative strength of the lighting industry here. The Game master mayreplace this variable with a number of his choosing)

Source Volatility: Moderate

81315 Special Decorative Lighting fixtures. Non-Standard fixtures generally designed and commissioned as custom projects incorporating exotic materials and high levels of workmanship. Buyers will be institutions, wealthy individuals, special businesses such as theatres or hotels, etc. As these items are not stocked, construction supply houses will not buy them. Not a good speculative item, but a trader may do well collecting orders for delivery on future runs. Shippers will seek transports with a good reputation, and adequate insurance. Damaged Goods will be a mortal blow to reputation. Handle with care

Base Unit: Pallet. .5 tons per pallet. Includes a lot of packing material.

Typical Annual Market: Base*ADMIN%*(2*Wealth Mod)*1-20 pallets.

Market Volatility: Extreme.

Typical Annual Source: Sources are rare, and should be placed by the game master, and respond only to orders. Orders may take days to months between ordering and completion, based on the size of the project and the company.

Source Volatility: Special Orders only

Special Instructions: Delicate and very valuable

81323 Signage Generally, sophisticated displays. Simple affairs of painted wood, metal, synthetic, and other materials are typically locally produced. High tech signs are like very large display screens, with strong, vivid color for visibility outdoors in daylight, from a distance. Even though the displays can be varied as needed, about 50% of display signage systems produced are custom manufactured for a specific customer. Like in many industries, signage manufacturers think highly of traders who bring them orders for this kind of custom work. Buyers are corporations and organizations of every sort, including government agencies. Highway signs may be purchased by government agencies or developers with contracts. Suppliers are specialized manufacturers.

Base Unit: Pallet 1 tons

Typical Annual Market: Base-4 x (SERV%) x 1-10 Pallets.

Source Volatility: Moderate

Special Instructions: Delicate Cargo

81381 Bulbs and other Expendable Lighting Elements The lighting device of the 24th century does not burn itself out every 1000 hours or so like its 21st century ancestor, but it still needs periodic replacement, especially in the more powerful fixtures.

Base Unit: Pallet. .25 tons per pallet.

Typical Quarterly Market: Base*wealth*(Admin%+Serv%) x 1Pallets

Market Volatility: Moderate

Typical Annual Source: Base-5*IND%*40 Pallets *d10. (this D10 represents the relative strength of the lighting industry here. The Game master may replace this variable with a number of his choosing)

Source Volatility: Low

82153 Cabinetry A good export for worlds with forests with attractive hardwoods, but a difficult cargo to work in speculative mode. There are simply too many styles and designs. Better to run around with a full set of samples and offer to bring back filled orders on the next run. Or, deliver finished wood or synthetic products to a cabinetry shop on a planet and let them do the actual fabrication. Cabinetry includes not only wood, but pieces molded from resins and synthetic materials, but wood is still held in the highest regard. Sources are manufacturers, (who are themselves buyers of lumber, synthetic stock, and some chemicals) and buyers are retailers and developers. Buyers may also include local installers, as well as manufacturers of finished products to be installed in cabinets, such as computers or entertainment devices or large appliances.

Base Unit: Pallet. 1 ton per pallet.

Typical Annual Market: Base modified by (2* wealth Mod) *6 pallets

Market Volatility: Moderate

Typical Annual Source: Base*(AG%+IND%)*25 Pallets *2d10. (this 2D10 represents the relative strength of the cabinetry industry here. The Game

master may replace this variable with a number of his choosing)

Source Volatility: Moderate

Special Instructions: natural wood products should not be exposed to vacuum or environmental extremes.

82921 Police Equipment This category includes equipment and tools, other than vehicles, unique to security, law enforcement, and police work (although in fairness, some of the devices, such as handcuffs, have a long history of use outside of police work, we shall politely ignore those cases.) to include restraint devices and non-lethal weapons, riot control gear, batons, and other equipment. Buyers will almost always be security services, public and private, and they will generally order their supplies. Suppliers will be specialized manufacturers. Security services are well known amongst small traders as good places in which to acquire a few friends, and the astute trader knows that if he is delivering this class of cargo, it gets highest priority, including personal delivery to the buyer (never pass up such an opportunity). Sometimes, owning this class of equipment requires a license.

Base Unit: Pallet 1 tons

Typical Annual Market: Base-2 x (DEF+ADMIN%) x .5 Pallets.

Market Volatility: Low

Typical Annual Source: Base-12 x (IND%) x 20 Pallets x 1d10-7, the variable representing the strength of the police hardware industry. This may be chosen by the game master. Negative numbers mean no such industry.

Source Volatility: Low

83120 Luggage This is a standard in the "speculative cargo" trade, as it's universally used and very portable- heck, it's made to be portable. Buyers are generally retailers, but other organizations buy the stuff from time to time, such as corporations providing people with company attache cases with logos. The military buys lots of specialized packs, holder, and cases that fall into the broad luggage category. Sellers are manufacturers. As with clothing, fashions and styles change, and the speculative trader should be alert to shifts in the market, and the latest innovations of the market.

Base Unit: Pallet. .5 ton per pallet.

Typical Annual Market: Base x (ADMIN+DEF%+MISC%) x 5 Pallets.

Market Volatility: Moderate.

Typical Annual Source: Base-5 x (IND%) x 1d10-4 x 10 Pallets, the variable representing the strength of the Luggage industry. This variable may be chosen by the game master.

Source Volatility: Moderate

84010 General Clothing Despite the apparent universal nature of the product, the trader who engages in speculative trade with this common commodity is advised to be knowledgeable and careful. Styles and preferences change capaciously, and if the seller is offering too low a price, it could be because the product isn't very marketable. Sellers tend to be manufacturers and wholesalers. Buyers are almost always retailers. Quality and price vary considerably, the high end of general clothing, while only a fraction of the demand, can bring large profits.

Base Unit: Pallet. .5 tons per pallet. 18 Tons per container.

Typical Quarterly Market: Base * wealth Mod *2 Containers

Market Volatility: Moderate

Typical Annual Source: Base*IND*40 Containers *d10. (this D10 represents the relative strength of the Clothing industry here. The Game master may replace this variable with a number of his choosing)

Source Volatility: Moderate

84125 Work Clothing Outwardly similar to the General Clothing category, but with key differences. First, buyers will often be organizations, corporations, and agencies that provide uniforms to their employees, in addition to retailers. Second, the speculative trader need not be as fashion conscious, as work clothing styles do not change as quickly, nor will high end, high fashion products bring large amounts of money.

Base Unit: Pallet. .5 tons per pallet. 18 tons per container.

Typical Annual Market: Base * (AG+MIN.+DEF+TRAN%)*1 Containers.

Market Volatility: High

Typical Annual Source: Base*IND*40 Pallets *d10. (this D10 represents the relative strength of the Clothing industry here. The Game master may replace this variable with a number of his choosing)

Source Volatility: Moderate

84127 Military Kit. Body armor, equipment harness, and other generally wearable items associated with the military. Military organizations usually do not scrutinize carriers of these cargos as they do with weapons. On occasion, military kit will be sold to non military retailers or organizations. Sellers are manufacturers. Some nations have issues with body armor being sold without restriction.

Base Unit: Container Pallet, .5 tons.

Typical Annual Market: Base x (MISC+DEF) x 10 Pallets Double if population is largely frontier/wilderness living.

Market Volatility: High

Typical Quarterly Source: Base-12 x (IND%) x 1d10 x 2 Pallets, the variable representing the strength of the military gear industry. This variable may be chosen by the game master.

Source Volatility: Moderate

84282 Lingerie, Loungewear and Nightwear A highly specialized line of clothing, generally available in smaller amounts, being of higher value per unit volume, but finding lower demand. Unlike other forms of clothing, this will never be of interest to organizations and institutions, the only buyers are retailers. Sources are specialized manufacturers.

Base Unit: Pallet. .25 tons per pallet.

Typical Quarterly Market: Base modified by 2* wealth Mod * 2 pallets

Market Volatility: Moderate

Typical Quartlerly Source: Base*IND%*10 Pallets *d10. (this D10 represents the relative strength of the Nightwear industry here. The Game master may replace this variable with a number of his choosing)

Source Volatility: Moderate

84810 Leather, Fur, and Hide Apparel On the average, of higher value than general clothing, and transported in lower quantities. In addition to the details as noted in 315111, General Clothing, note that the sources here tend to be more specialized, and the demand is affected by weather and environmental conditions. This cargo also makes a better speculative cargo., especially when made from materials of novel origin.

Base Unit: Pallet. .5 tons per pallet.

Typical Quarterly Market: Base modified by 2* wealth Mod * 4 pallets

Market Volatility: Moderate

Typical Quarterly Source: Base*IND%*20 Pallets *d10. (this D10 represents the relative strength of the Clothing industry here. The Game master may replace this variable with a number of his choosing)

Source Volatility: Moderate

86100 Hazardous Environment Clothing Garments made for survival in extremely unsafe places. Includes pressure suits, fireproof suits, deep sea diving suits, and chemical protective suits. Selling pressure suits is a lot tougher than some traders might thing, but with a little reflection the reason is obvious: of all the possible cargos, this is one just about every starship captain knows well. As a result, the competition can be fierce.

Base Unit: Pallets, 1 tons.

Typical Annual Market: Base x (SPACE+MISC%) x 20 Pallets.

Market Volatility: High

Typical Annual Source: Base-12 x (IND%) x 5 Pallets x 1d10-4, the variable representing the strength of the protective garment industry. This may be chosen by the game master.

Base Unit: Pallet. 1 ton per pallet.

87310 Meters and Sensors. Includes magnetic and electric meters, gas and liquid flow meters, scales, counting devices, speed indicators, etc. Not an easy speculative cargo, as demand, although broad, is specialized. Sources are manufacturers, buyers will be industries (sensors used in a wide variety of automated process controls, as well as being incorporated in many devices), utility companies, military organizations (which have frequent need of sensors of specialized military purpose) scientific organizations, environmentally oriented organizations, and retailers.

Civilian shippers will often be hired to move them, though, either from the manufacturer to the receiving military unit or from one military depot to another. In any event, the shipper is usually chosen with care. Whenever possible, the ship will be of the same flag as the military armored vehicles being moved. In certain situations, military passengers may accompany a cargo of armored vehicles.

Source Volatility: High

Special Instructions: Yes, lots of special instructions. Follow all of them.

89124 Small Arms Ammunition Rounds for small arms. Some cargos will be military, some civilian. Dealing with this cargo in either version sometimes requires special approvals. At the very least, local officials like to know when a load of ammunition is arriving at their location. Except in unusual circumstances as dictated by the game master, or the presence of Texans in large numbers, the military and security forces use the bulk of smalls arms ammunition. To reflect this, both Quarterly and Annual markets are shown. The annual market is civilian, and the quarterly market government. Sellers are manufacturers, an buyers will be military or security agencies, or retailers. Alternatively, ships may be hired to move ammunition from one military site to another.

89480 Novelties, Collectibles, Souvenirs, And Curios, trinkets, tchotchkes, gift items, and other such items, typically small, whose function is generally to sit on a shelf and announce their existence. Frequently, such items are connected to a place, event, or company and are very specific. One simply will not find much market for a pallet of Snow-globes away from the place represented inside the Snow-globe. Specific items make poor speculative cargo, while non-specific items in this class are effective if the trader is persuasive. People certainly buy them, but this is the least useful cargo of them all and can be a tricky one to find buyers for. Of course, if the trader times things right, and arrives with a load of commemorative gift items in time to catch a brief wave of demand, a lot of money can be made. These things are sold to retailers, and organizations that will sell or often give them away, and obtained from a variety of manufacturers, usually opportunistic small businesses. This class isn't all junk- some little trinkets can be made from crystal, porcelain, or other high value materials. Some become collector's items.

89700 Jewelry. Ranks up there with gems in terms of value per unit weight/volume, in fact, moreso. A Jewelry tray is mostly armor and packing material, (and is identical to a diamond/gemstone tray, see 66721) and 50 trays will stack onto a pallet. Single trays are generally traded, and when moved, they are often not even in the cargo area. Traders will keep them in a ship's vault, or among personal possessions, or in another special place. Note that source volatility is extremely high- some years the mine is lucky, some years not so lucky. If a trader is being paid to move diamonds as freight, the owner will usually be very interested in the security procedures and overall reputation, and will take steps to make certain that the amount of diamonds at the end of the voyage is the correct amount. Buy Jewelry from dealers and jewelry manufacturers. (they prefer terms like "studio", "design house" etc). Sell to Retailers.

High end sports gear will be very valuables in terms of money per ton. Buyers are retailers, and sometimes organizations sponsoring athletics. Suppliers are manufacturers. 89829 Musical Instruments. Covers a wide range of devices. This is a fairly rare cargo- in small amounts, the instruments will be shipped via the "general parcel" class. Generally, the only times someone will buy in the pallet load is when they intend to retail, or are equipping a band, or are acquiring large instruments such as Pianos. A Grand Piano is shipped in a 4-pallet container. Sellers will be dealers and the rare, select manufacturers. Buyers are typically dealers, or some particular organizations.

Base Unit: Pallet. 1 tons per Pallet.

Typical Annual Market: Base-4 x (SERV%) x wealth mod x 1 Pallets. There is a 25% chance that any given pallet is a piano of 2-4 pallet size.

Special Instructions: Wood instruments must avoid all environmental extremes, exposure to vacuum can destroy them. Delicate Cargo

89852 Unrecorded memory media. In whatever memory format data is stored in the future, be it crystals, chips, disks, (Star Trek episodes - Original series- mention something called "tapes"- not sure what these are) these are the blank, unrecorded memory elements. Demand will be from companies and organizations that buy them in bulk and then record onto them, as well as retailers, and many organizations. Supply will be from specialized manufacturers.

89862 Pre-recorded memory media. Same as Unrecorded memory media, but this time there is stuff recorded on it. This can be a very valuable speculative cargo if the trader can predict accurately just what kind of stuff the general public will want to buy. Typically, it is entertainment programming, but selecting the few winners from the multitude of offerings is not easy. The trader with a knack for this is indeed blessed, and will often be sought after. Buyers of this product are retailers, and Suppliers are recording

facilities. Pre-recorded memory media typically contains security features to prevent unauthorized copying. Doing so is illegal and incurs the wrath of the entertainment industry.

89910 Handicrafts Usually "low tech" style manufactures in some traditional ethnic style. People have a desire to "connect" with other places and cultures, so these items, when authentic and of high quality, can be excellent speculative cargos, although the demand will not be large. Some are designed to be useful, practical objects, simple tools and table ware being popular. Others are purely decorative. Frequently, they are manufactured by individuals or very small companies, so obtaining them can be time consuming. Sometimes, producers will be represented by a dealer, or a co-op. Buyers are generally retailers. Loads can easily be broken down into portions of pallets.

Base Unit: Pallet. .5 ton per pallet.

Typical Annual Market: Base*(Wealth Mod)*.5 pallets

The Game master may replace this variable with a number of his choosing) The wealth mod should be inverted here, meaning, reverse the order of entries in the table. If the colony is "wealthy" use the entry for "poor".,

89961 Equipment for the Disabled and Handicapped. This is various powered and un-powered equipment designed to assist the handicapped and infirm. 89964 Synthetic Blood Plasma. Less of a demand exists in the 24th century than in the 20th, as surgical procedures have improved. Also, many hospital level facilities can now synthesize their own blood replacements on an as-needed basis, but synthetic blood plasma is easier and cheaper to mass produce, then sent to individual hospitals where it can be tailored to patients. Not an effective speculative cargo for obvious reasons.

Base Unit: Pallet. 1 ton per pallet. Less than 1 pallet will be broken down to cannisters, 20 of which fit ona pallet.

89968 Human Organs, Synthetic A great many human parts can be replaced by artificial version. This category includes both prosthetic such as artificial legs, and internal replacement parts such as hearts, bones, and kidneys. Suppliers are very specialized manufacturers, and buyers are organizations with large hospitals. If the military seems to be stocking up on these items, it’s a bad sign.
