RACE REPORTS
What a difference a setup makes. The car is now competitive. In the four races so far this season, the suspension changes seem to have paid off handsomely. At NHIS, I picked up almost 4 1/2 seconds a lap (1:24.9 last year vs. a 1:20.5 at Pig Roast), and gained 3 seconds at Lime Rock (1:09.5 vs. 1:06.5). The car still hasn't been aligned or had corner weights checked, so I think there's more time left in the car as is. The planned limited slip installation should be worth some time as well.

Had a great dice with Anthony Ruddy at Pig Roast, with us nose-to-tail for most of Sunday's race. Fortunately, I qualified ahead of the "aggressive" racing of the Spec Miatas and did not get caught up in their mess. Had to pass one of them in the dirt coming out of NHIS turn 6 as he either didn't look in his mirrors or was trying to intentionally block me and moved over abruptly climbing the hill exiting the turn.

At Lime Rock, Rich Smith in a Civic Si got a better start than I did and passed me, but neither of us got passed by any other ITA cars (except being lapped by Brian Blizzard) and were never more than 2 feet away from each other the entire race. Rich came out ahead, by 0.6 seconds. I narrowly escaped a late-race pass by the Dodge Charger of Chris Hetzer - the checker flew as he was pulling along side me down the front straight.

What a FUN weekend!!! Finally broke out of the 1:20s in qualifying on Sunday. Positions 4 - 8 all qualified within the same second (positions 5 - 7 within the same 1/10th!!). Close racing.
On Saturday's race I lost a couple of positions on the start. Took a couple of laps to get by the Porsche 914 of Joe Stadelmann who got me on the start. I then hooked up with ITC leader Brian Mushnick for several laps before he let me go. Brian runs dual video cameras and should have some great footage of both days at www.briansgarage.com.
On Sunday, I turned my best lap ever at NHIS with a 1:19.854 in qualifying. I did a little better at the start, and with so many cars running so close in time, the racing was INTENSE! Got involved in an incident on lap 6 with the RX-7 of Sam Gardella and the Integra of Phil Gott. Fortunately, there was minimal damage for all involved. Managed to recover and claim 7th spot (I was catching up to Phil at the end, but ran out of time).
That's probably it for me for the season. A great year - I'm now running with "the fast guys". For next year, I'll have a limited slip differential, and may have to go with the Hoosiers - could be worth up to a second a lap!
