V. Background Summary
=====================
Jake Williams is the youngest child and son of Tuteao and Tui Williams, a family
with a proud Maori tradition. His
father was a warden (now retired) at the Federation Penal Colony still based in
New Zealand. His mother died when
he was very young, prompting his father to send Jake and his older brother, Te
Rangitoa (or Toa) to live with their paternal grandparents in Wellington,
New Zealand. His grandfather introduced both Toa and Jake to the martial
art of Aikido when he was 5. However,
Jake's greatest love is for kanzana (or stick fighting).
Jake idolised his older brother, so it was little surprise that on the date of
his sixteenth birthday he applied and followed his older brother into Star Fleet
Academy.

VI.
Psychological Profile
=========================
I must admit that I have taken more than a passing interest in the progress of
this individual since I met him in the prelims before his acceptance to the
Academy. My first impression was
that of a wide eyed, somewhat naive young man from a quiet backwater on Earth.
It wasn't until I undertook the year one psych evaluations that I
discovered more about this remarkable person.
Jake has a very strong drive to succeed. He doesn't have that brilliant
streak that others in the top percentile possess, but he has a solid work ethic
that when coupled with his drive and determination, makes any task he puts his
will to achievable. When I asked
him about his dreams and aspirations, he replied, "I want to be the best at
what I do, whatever that is."
It seems to me that he is yet to find his ideal vocation, but I'm not
exaggerating when I say that he'll be worth 3 people when he does find his
niche. The commander who gets Jake
will be getting a solid and reliable person who will pursue his assignment
thoroughly with minimal supervision.

VII. Star Fleet Academy Report
==============================
Cadet Williams demonstrates a quick nature and lateral thinking in his
observations and subsequent actions, particularly during the practical
simulation of this programme.
He is very mindful of his fellow cadets and performs exceptionally well when
entrusted with leadership and additional responsibilities.
It is my final recommendation that Cadet Williams be nominated for a department
head position in his final billeting.

Certainly one of my more unusual pupils, aspiring bridge officers don't usually
elect a subject such as Philosophy as one of their key subject areas.
However, he has certainly proved himself adept and has even managed to catch
myself out on more than one occasion.
I wish him well with his career in the fleet and am certain he will go far.
