Davidがレポーターに会いに部屋から出てくるところ。
For a young man who hasn't been outside this room in almost a year,
David does look good. But as you spend time with him, it becomes
obvious just how small his world has become.
"Sometimes I worry that the air from the bathroom goes out and contaminates people
outside."
"What was the first day that you came out?"
"Excuse
me."
"OK"
"This...second of July,8:10 pm. First, in my ..., actually left the bathroom."
"Do you track of what you do here?"
And what David is about to do next,will not be easy.
"Oh goodness, hi, oh my goodness, hello."
Determine to get used to being around other people, David's agreed to move
in to his family's den for a sit-down interview.
But only after making sure
the door is shut...just right.
"I've got this thing about closing the
door.
I'm afraid I didn't close it all the way somehow.
I'm still not
real comfortable being in this room yet."
"Take a look,look,you've got a
brand new computer."
"Yeah,that's pretty nice."
"Are you feeling great
about this?"
"Oooh,getting nervous.I'm feeling very, very., very anxious."
"Initially, I felt like I had to be in the bathroom to be safe to
keep from contaminating other things."
David knows that his fears are groundless. But that
doesn't reduce the anxiety.
"I don't think I'm contaminated."
"Well, I ... I'd find contamination so you don't get to choose.
The contamination is an invention of sort of malfunctioning part of my
brain. So you don't get to say you're not contaminated."
