Harley Earl

Harley Earl was the son of a Los Angeles coachbuilder who had pushed his dad's business into building cutomized cars for movie stars. Earl first moved to Detroit to design the first 1927 La Salee (which was the affordable Cadillac). The President of GM Alfred Sloan hired Earl to head a new section. This section called "Art and Colour" became the styling staff. It was the first dedicated styling staff in an American car manufacturing company. Later Earl and his "Art and Colour" staff would team up with Chevy to make the first Corvette for the 1953 motorama.
