America Can’t Be Knocked Down:

The World Trade Centers Must Be Rebuilt

September 11, 2001 was a day that will forever remain in the minds and hearts of all Americans. On September 11th, a group of terrorists looking to change the way of American life, hijacked four jetliners and used them as giant weapons of mass destruction as they flew into World Trade Center towers one and two, killing a little under 3000 people . Since the terror attacks, the people of the United States have had a number of different suggestions about what to do with ground zero, the site where the towers once stood. Upon hearing a number of different possible solutions, such as memorials or a different building, the best possible solutions is to rebuild the World Trade Centers just as they were on before September 11th. Rebuilding the towers would prove beneficial to America in number of ways. A rebuilt towers would serve to tremendously help the struggling economy in New York City and surrounding areas, help boost the already high sense of nationalism in America, and they would also serve to discourage terrorists from attacking our country in the future.

The first and most direct impact that the Twin Towers would have, if they are rebuilt, would be to significantly help the struggling economy of New York City. Loosing the world trade center left thousands of people without a place to work, caused a stoppage of the great amount of economic activity that took place in downtown Manhattan, and scared away a lot of people such as tourists who contributed to the economy of the area. By rebuilding the towers, it is likely that many of the problems caused by the towers simply not being there would be eliminated. True, it will be very expensive to rebuild the towers. When the towers were first built it cost approximately 1.5 billion dollars and that was in 1966! The positive effects created by such an investment, however, will by far outweigh the negatives of a princely building. First off, the task of construction, although long and burdensome, will provide many people with jobs having to do with the building process. Another main positive is space. The physical space that was lost with towers has essential economy. Standing 110 stories tall, the World Trade Center offered about 10,000,000 square feet of rentable office space. The towers were home to the jobs of over 50,000 people. Without this space, the economy of the city will never be the same because there will be less businesses, and therefore will be less people able to get jobs. Because of the number of jobs that would be located in the buildings, and an increase in tourism that follows a building of such importance, the prosperous side effects of having more people in downtown Manhattan will be felt. The more people there are in the city, the more money will be spent for food, shopping and other industries, which will all lead to a boost of the economy.
Many people believe that if there could be any positives coming from the horrible event of September 11th , it would be the rise of nationalism and unity in our country. Another positive impact that a new Twin Towers would create, would be to give the heightened levels of nationalism in our country yet another major boost. The Twin Towers meant much more to our county than it being an extremely tall office building. The Twin Towers were seen by many as a symbol of the American way of life. The two giant steel structures were a symbol of American greatness and strength, and its location in the economic center of the countries greatest city made it a symbol of American prosperity. The American people were very proud of this structure and when it was knocked down a part of every American went with it. To rebuild the Towers is to say, America can not be knocked down by anyone and if someone tries to take us out, we will always come back just as strong as ever. If this does not serve as an inspirational tool for the American people to rally behind, perhaps nothing will. The rebuilt Towers will provide for and emphatic showing of our strength by displaying our ability to rebound from any adversity, and will contribute to an increase in American nationalism, something which no county can have enough of.

What is the most effective way to stop terrorism? Well, there are a number of different solutions that have been suggested, but what better way to stop a terrorist from committing a horrific act then to prove to them that terrorism does not work. The terrorist network that took out the Twin Towers, was looking to change the American way of life which they detested so greatly. For one to become a terrorist, it must be believed, a person would have to believe what they were doing will have an impact on whomever is their target. On 9-11, the terrorists goal was to disrupt the American way of life by not only knocking down the towers and killing people, but also by damage the envied American economy and the free American way of life. Onboard the planes, the terrorists truly must have believed that what they were about to do would change the future of America. By physically rebuilding the towers just as they once stood, and that having its desired effects of a boosted economy and patriotism, it would seem very evident that the terrorists were unsuccessful. It would be very difficult to believe that a person would be willing to give his life to a terrorist cause, if he thinks the giving of his life would have not help his cause. The rebuilding of the World Trade Center would likely dissuade a number of future terrorists from sacrificing their life if they thought the impact they had would only last a couple of years.

Although there are a number of different possible solutions about what to do with the area known as ground zero, no solution will prove so effective as the solution to rebuild the Twin Towers. No other solution can encompass fixing a problem we have such as our suffering economy, create and add to an already high American nationalism sentiment, and to help prevent a future problem such as another possible terror attack. Rebuild the Twin Towers, and see remarkably valuable effects that the two great symbols of American life will bring.
